Have you ever been to Brooklyn Record Exchange in Greenpoint? Good vibes and good selection, found some great stuff there at very affordable prices, and the staff is awesomeepilogue wrote:All of it, really. So there’s no real desire for, say the original release of Zep IV in the same way people dig first editions of books?tragabigzanda wrote:Completely depends on the vinyl master that was used. Thank you for the explanation.tragabigzanda wrote:Well there is DEFINITELY a lot of desire for that sort of stuff, if you're approaching things as a collector. I’m trying to figure out how to buy/give our oldest some older stuff I feel she needs. She’s not any kind of real audiophile but I’m not sure how she’d feel about getting the older release over a newer version. I’ve already given her Zep II and IV from Papa Wease’s collection, and I wonder if I should keep scouring that or just buy her new pressings of the stuff.

Well, yes but there are some things he doesn’t have that I want her to have.

I'd hop on discogs, really nice search filters, and when you spot the title you want at a price you're happy with, you can usually add one more from the same seller under the same shipping cost.wease wrote:Well, yes but there are some things he doesn’t have that I want her to have.
Also each release has user comments at the bottom in case you're iffy about which release to go for.

Re: The Vinyl Thread: Still Listen On Wax, Don't Use The CD
Zeppelin is an interesting one, because generally the older versions are considered to be sounding better. Not many people like the Jimmy Page remasters from the last few years. BUT, he claims he remastered them in the way the albums were supposed to be heard so.....wease wrote:Thank you for the explanation.tragabigzanda wrote:Well there is DEFINITELY a lot of desire for that sort of stuff, if you're approaching things as a collector. On a side not to my above post - I see Around The Sun is being re-released here tomorrow, and although easily one of thier worst albums, I kind of want to add it to my collection

Placed my first order with Discogs in six months today and it was a scam. Hooray!

Discogs emailed me to let me know the seller has been suspended. But I’ve got to go through PayPal for the refund, so I’m sure it’ll take weeks.tragabigzanda wrote:How did you identify it as a scam?
