This is my prediction, too. 'Amazing, gorgeous/vast open world with some overused/outdated RPG elements, etc.'Monkey_Driven wrote:Review embargo lifts in 14 hours. I bet this settles in the low 90s on Metacritic. A very good score!
Something like that...

Professional reviews are a tad lower than I expected. I expect this to get review bombed like no other. Still a day one purchase.

ACG’s review got me hyped. I couldn’t imagine reviewing a game like this in a time frame. Wouldn’t want to crush through it, would want to take my time.

Honestly this game doesn't appeal to me. Maybe I'm just getting old and chafed.

Re: Official Starfield Hype Train Thread Choo Choo (9/6/23)
I played for a couple hours last night. I'm enjoying it but it does feel a little dated and Bethesda needs to stop with the slew of interactive objects in their games. I don't want to pick up a dinner plate or a squeeze bottle. And I'd love to be able to kill that hulking robot who is constantly getting in my way. I will give him praise for carrying all my crap, though.
Overall, way too early for any sweeping conclusions on the story, gameplay, etc.

Nothing I’ve read or seen makes me worry about the game overall, but the lack of maps and the inventory UI sound frustrating.

i wont start it until Sea of Stars is done
looks like a decent game, but not THAT good
it may get better with time, for sure, like SKYRIM did (and no mans sky also)

That game was pretty much broken at launch. I don't think this is nearly as bad.tree_ wrote:Based on reviews, I'm getting serious No Man's Sky de ja vu.

NMS looks kinda badass now though. Plus 65daysofstatic did a post-rock OST for it. Also, Bethesda kinda sucks.
I'll see y'all in the No Man's Sky thread.

Re: Official Starfield Hype Train Thread Choo Choo (9/6/23)
I wasn't aware of the lack of an actual map until reading the reviews. That is a shockingly bad oversight to me. Maybe not so much when you're in space, but to not have access to a map in one of the many 'sprawling' cities is baffling. The inventory system sounds like it could be frustrating too. Will try to give it a spin this weekend, but will admit I'm taken back by the reviews though I had some doubts about this one for a while.
Makes me even more excited for Spider Man 2 cause that's pretty much guaranteed to be an open world blast, even if it's 'more of the same'.

They told everyone that would be the case, so it shouldn’t have been a surprise. A lot of planets are just for mining materials.psychobain wrote:people are complaining that the planets are empty, not a lot to do...is that right?
I can’t boot up until Monday, but sounds like it starts a little slow and then gets going. Lots of side stuff to stumble upon.

It's a completely different game now. I really enjoyed my time with it.

Some of the reviews have confirmed my greatest fears about this game.
