Oh, I thought of another horrible parenting experience. Listening to your kids talk about their dreams. Ugh. Painfully boring.

My daughter is doing this at the moment as a way to get us to buy her a puppy.

There is a wolf in me . . . fangs pointed for tearing gashes . . . a red tongue for raw meat . . . and the hot lapping of blood—I keep this wolf because the wilderness gave it to me and the wilderness will not let it go.

There is a fox in me . . . a silver-gray fox . . . I sniff and guess . . . I pick things out of the wind and air . . . I nose in the dark night and take sleepers and eat them and hide the feathers . . . I circle and loop and double-cross.

There is a hog in me . . . a snout and a belly . . . a machinery for eating and grunting . . . a machinery for sleeping satisfied in the sun—I got this too from the wilderness and the wilderness will not let it go.

There is a fish in me . . . I know I came from salt-blue water-gates . . . I scurried with shoals of herring . . . I blew waterspouts with porpoises . . . before land was . . . before the water went down . . . before Noah . . . before the first chapter of Genesis.

There is a baboon in me . . . clambering-clawed . . . dog-faced . . . yawping a galoot's hunger . . . hairy under the armpits . . . here are the hawk-eyed hankering men . . . here are the blonde and blue-eyed women . . . here they hide curled asleep waiting . . . ready to snarl and kill . . . ready to sing and give milk . . . waiting—I keep the baboon because the wilderness says so.

There is an eagle in me and a mockingbird . . . and the eagle flies among the Rocky Mountains of my dreams and fights among the Sierra crags of what I want . . . and the mockingbird warbles in the early forenoon before the dew is gone, warbles in the underbrush of my Chattanoogas of hope, gushes over the blue Ozark foothills of my wishes—And I got the eagle and the mockingbird from the wilderness.

O, I got a zoo, I got a menagerie, inside my ribs, under my bony head, under my red-valve heart—and I got something else: it is a man-child heart, a woman-child heart: it is a father and mother and lover: it came from God-Knows-Where: it is going to God-Knows-Where—For I am the keeper of the zoo: I say yes and no: I sing and kill and work: I am a pal of the world: I came from the wilderness.

pretty much...I have a couple good friends with young anti social kids and they know Brahms by age 10..its great..both girls btw

Parallel play is definitely a thing at that age. Ours was the same, still is in some contexts. Him being an only child is something I'm not familiar with, even four years in now.

I came from a close knit sibling dynamic and his cousins are all sets too.

You're lucky your kid plays alone w/r/t playground politics. When she starts to play with others, there are some karens out there in the parenting circles for sure.

Ha -- not a biter thank goodness.

Naturally some property and/or territorial disputes occur from time to time at the playground, though. Those things are best left to the kiddos to figure out.

There's also both ends of the extremes on parenting styles that pop up if you look for it. I love/hate seeing the combination of helicopter parents and aloof cell phone parents sparring on the sidelines.

No sooner did I post about my kid’s antisocial behavior, than at pick up today a girl she has been talking about a little came right up and said hello to me. I asked her name and what she did at school today, while my kid just stared at her and said nothing. I think she wants to be friends with her, just doesn’t have the understanding yet. It will come.

my oldest had terrible ear infections from about 6 months old to about a year. that was smack dab in the middle of when speech is recognized and develops, and he couldn't hear shit. so he was delayed by a bit. when he was about 18 months he started seeing an occupational and speech therapist. it resolved itself. the key is to catch it early.

First, some context:

I have kind of an avoidant personality and I'm a procrastinator. Do you guys have a way of convincing yourself to do things you don't want to do? Do you psyche yourself up? Force your mind to frame things in a different way to make them more motivating?

If there’s something I don’t want to do, I’d rather have it behind me than in front of me, limiting my psyche and capacity for joy

So today, my 4-year old had to get three shots at the pediatrician: Two routine vaccines, plus a flu shot; I also opted to get the flu shot when the doc offered it.

She was getting predictably nervous. Then the nurse said to my kid, "Ok, who do you want to go first? You or your dad?"

Through minor tears, she said "Me first so I can just get it over with." I started clapping and hollering, "Way to go, buddy!" Felt like such a big win.
