Still wish they’d banged out a covers record circa Riot Act though.

happy to hear Take the Long Way rocked
Jeremy (live) always slays. Funny bc the studio version was played ad nauseum and it’s not a track I can listen to by myself, kind of ever. But I always want them to play it live. That outtro booms, the whole arena is belting their lungs out, and PJ and Ed just bash it all out. Great times. Black never disappoints live too.
I’m all for ‘well played’ or ‘creative adaptations’ of covers. ‘Fuckin Up’ blows the roof off. Baba O’Reilly usually does too. Purple Rain is usually an average bar cover band version when PJ plays it. Only the diehards dig it. It’s a fuckin long song, and a momentum killer. It is a waste of a live track opportunity for PJ. Why not just play more pearl jam songs instead?
PJ’s pink floyd covers usually suck too.

I also think 'I Wont Back Down' dedicated to a kid Ed actually knew and who fought hard up to the end is pretty awesome.

I like the live versions from 2000 when they would suddenly pull the plug halfway through the outro - they should have left it that way because the rest is superfluous and boring to sit through. It was perfect.96583UP wrote:happy to hear Take the Long Way rocked

Fuckin Up is their best cover by far. So, of course, they rarely play it.96583UP wrote:happy to hear Take the Long Way rocked

Did ‘Take the Long Way’ have a pumping bassline? Always wonder how much better that wouldv’e been on album with big bass presence

Unless the original artist comes out and sings it, if your band does a cover song, at least sing the fucking thing. Bullshit move

Yes, mostly back in 2000, which was arguably their live peak - 23 years ago. That said, I still think they're playing well.wease wrote:It was pretty much a staple for a while, tho.tyweed wrote:Fuckin Up is their best cover by far. It’s always been a complaint of mine. But it’s worse now that covers are nearly 20% of the set.spike wrote:Is this a newish complaint now that the sets are shorter? Seems not so long ago we were all salivating for covers.Chris_H_2 wrote:did they really have to play that many covers?

At least 3 had tambourines. None had guitars that weren't actually plugged in though.wease wrote:UghCopperTom wrote:Plus the opening act was on stage too.wease wrote:How fucking lame.Strat wrote:Yea all but first verse.wease wrote:Did Josh sing Purple Rain?Strat wrote:It sounded fucking great to me! Cool setlist, its nice to see Take The Long Way, thats a very cool song to hear live. Im not a huge fan of the covers from recent tours, and yes, enough of Purple Rain, specially if its Josh singing.
Still, the band seems on fire like always.
