Hereditary is definitely miserable and kind of pointless and muddled, but I can't say it's bad.

Hereditary is great.

It was so tense at the movies when I saw it. Tense and fun.

I love Hereditary. Great piece of filmmaking, true art piece. But like many other great movies, it requires some effort, discernment, and patience from the audience.

Jorge wrote:I had to watch Hereditary again and gosh, I just don't like it even a little bit. It's really stupid and boring and not scary at all, just miserable.
It is, however, unintentionally very funny at times.

Are you saying it might be a little advanced for Jorge?

No. But I understand why movies like this just aren't his thing. Jorge is very smart and a cool guy, but he can be impatient and dismissive sometimes.

It's an extremely obvious and surface-level movie. And I used to think "at least it looks good," but watching it again yesterday showed me just how stiff and kind of graceless the filmmaking is.

From that to Beau is Afraid is a huge jump for Ari Aster, I think he improved a lot

Well, I see a lot to enjoy about the movie. You just have to vibe with it I guess. I found it extremely shocking, beautiful, and horrifying on many levels.

I haven't seen Beau yet but I'm surprised you liked it!

A lot of people whose taste I respect love it very much. I don't get it but it's cool how different opinions can be

I enjoyed the set up enough, but the last 20 minutes or so left me wanting. I will probably give Midsommar another chance at some point, but for now :fail:

I feel Midsommar-Hereditary is another RM classic like The Last Jedi or Dave A

Modsommar is great and I also enjoy Hereditary, and I wonder if the laughs truly are unintended. I don’t think they are.
