I want to watch The Sting tonight, but I don't want to pay for it.
Assault on Precinct 13 is free on YouTube, so maybe I'll watch that instead.

I always assumed it was bad, but it got decent reviews and has a pretty good cast. I haven't seen either of them and will start with the original

Martin McDonagh
"I could see where that debate could come from, but I thought it was not seeing what I see in the film. The bait in the whole idea was: what's a villain and what's a hero? But I don't know. Basically, if someone's calling your film racist, and you wrote and directed it, that means they're calling you a racist. And I've always been so anti that, that, yes, it's hurtful. No one wants to be called that. ... Put a warning in the programme notes, sure, but let the character be who they are. Trust your audience to have the intelligence to know I'm not using these words. Characters need to be whatever they need to be. If they're nice, fine. If they're homophobic, you've got to know it's the character. If there are racist words, then that's to show an audience that this part of Ireland is racist. Or we're going in a direction of a bland, inoffensive nothingness."

Re: What movies are you watching?
I think Sam Rockwell did a great job as a mean spirited crooked alcoholic cop, that lives at home with his tough mother. Interesting that after getting fired, even he could work on solving a murder. Redeemed? I don’t think so, it is heavily suggested that they will take the law into their own hands, and kill the man they suspected, even if he was cleared of the murder of Frances daughter. Much more interesting than if he was only mean, and there was another kind and sensible cop that helped work on the murder.

Yeah a lot of it was intriguing enough, including Woody Harrelson's character/performanceAnders wrote:I think Sam Rockwell did a great job as a mean spirited crooked alcoholic cop, that lives at home with his tough mother. The protagonists. Which is not the same as calling them "the good guys" or whether they're justified, as you know. But more importantly it's a systemic critique, and a very clear-headed one IMOtragabigzanda wrote:I think Parasite is super ambiguous at its core. Is the family the antagonist or the protagonist? You may be right about PYW, I don't really remember it that well

Re: What movies are you watching?
Have to disagree with trag on all of this (3 Billboards, Parasite, etc) but especially PYM. The ending makes it far more a "liberal fantasy" than anything. But, again, I disagree with that label for all of these in general.Jorge wrote:The protagonists. Which is not the same as calling them "the good guys" or whether they're justified, as you know.
