the vocals are already sounding cleaner to me with the Pittsburgh performance... 1 minute in.

Yeah, I get what he was trying to do with the vocals here, but I wish he was doing less of it, during the first verse/opening especially.

I think this one is much improved as a live performance.

Live, it loses all of the percussion layering, which is a perc of the studio version for me. But it was definitely an amazing opener and it'll be a great live song generally.

too bad matt doesn't bring along his drum tech for backup percussion anymore, like he did for the binaural tour.

Why can't Pj write songs that as good as the bridges they have??
Agreed. And the way it dovetails back into the chorus is spectacular.

I'm just gonna keep reading this thread until someone can convince me why this is such a great song. 2 stars for me at the moment. Hoping to hear it live on Saturday.

I keep hearing it as part elegy, part lament, part challenge. It's a very cinematic song for me--attached to a particular image I've created in my mind. A person about to end their life, overawed by the size and scope of the universe they are about to rejoin, and the demand that the universe acknowledge them before that moment. The song is stately and dignified, as befitting that moment. Somber and wistful--recognizing the sanctity of the moment despite the insignificance of the person--the way he draws a connection between himself and the larger world through the yellow moon, which he knows isn't rising for him, but he wills that connection anyway. And it is one of Eddie's best vocal performances in really a long long time.

The emotions and visuals this song paints are amazing. The sky going black because all the stars have "fallen" out of the sky. Yes.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

Yup. It's a far more expansive and melancholy "Lowlight", imo. There's definitely a stargazing-at-night alone vibe.

I just said this in the l-bolt thread but there is a ton of subtle but deeply evocative imagery in this song, and the music, lyrics, and vocals really intertwine in magnificent ways. This is one of the most effective pieces of craft in a long time.

I keep picturing a person outside in the dark alone, on a grassy knoll, looking to the moon, sky, heavens, moments before dying.
