Jorge wrote:Also try:

Sicilian Ghost Story
The Villainess -- cool Korean action movie, lots of drama, great action scenes
Lowlife -- very absurd, extremely violent black comedy. The name "Tarantino" gets thrown around as a comparison but that's not quite right. Really funny
Let the Corpses Tan - Italian psychedelia, super tense, and very weird. One of my faves

2017 was a good year
Do you have some for 2018 and 2019 as well? I'm just about done putting both of those years together, and ready to start on 2018 in a few days.

The latest Indy isn’t too shabby. I guess my expectations were low so that helped.

From 2018, I recommend an Argentine movie named Rojo. And also El Angel, a great period piece about a real-life mass murderer. There's also La Flor but it's 16 hours long and not for everyone, though very good.

That year I also loved Shoplifters, a lovely and understated Japanese movie. Dry Martina, which I think you'd like since you enjoyed A Fantastic Woman. 2018 is also the year of The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Sorry to Bother You, Cold War, and Mission: Impossible - Fallout, which are all great, but I'm sure they're already on your list.

2019:

Retrospekt - Really impressive Dutch drama that plays around with timelines and storytelling. You gotta pay close attention to this one. Trailer

Rare Beasts - Really nutty psychological comedy-drama directed by Billie Piper with some really out-there dialogue and surreal turns. Nobody liked it when it came out. I think it's great. Definitely ahead of its time, Trailer

The Mountain - Rick Alverson movie. About lobotomies! Really heavy as his stuff tends to be. Jeff Goldblum is great in this. Trailer

Love Me Not - Absolutely surreal biblical allegory, lots of fun, extremely bizarre. Kind of hard to follow but very rewarding IMO. Trailer

Lina de Lima - A Chilean musical about the life of a Peruvian immigrant trying to get by as a cleaning lady for the wealthy. Very moving. The elaborate musical numbers represent her fantasy life, contrasting with the despair of her reality. Really beautiful film. Trailer

Genese - A lovely and sometimes devastating film by Philip Lesange, one of the great current French Canadian filmmakers. Really beautifully shot exploration of the horrors of young love. Captures the thrill and the loneliness of youth very well. Great music too. Trailer

Plus obvious masterpieces Parasite and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and other solid ones like The Beach Bum and Us. Another great year for movies!

Perfect. You are correct that I’ve got the more famous ones mentioned already, but I really appreciate the recommendations. I might not get to all short term, but I will get to some, and all are written down for the future.

Hell yeah, you made the right call

I'm 2 hours into Interstellar. I saw it when it was released, but I don't remember much about it. It's been pretty harrowing so far.

Have we? I'm not a big Nolan-head. I'm more appalled that you haven't seen The Sopranos.

Yeah like 3 weeks ago, bro. I saw it a bit after it came out, but haven't since.
