Less virulent reaction on RM to this news than some other recent bribery allegations. Curious!

Presumably, that he was indicted and people are happy about that. They aren’t bending over backwards to find a way this can be framed for political gain or grievance.

See, they are just! When one of their own is corrupt they prosecute! Thus, if anyone else… say someone in a higher office and his family… had done anything wrong they would totally have prosecuted them. And if they didn’t prosecute, how could they be guilty of anything related to bribery? They literally cannot. Case closed folks. Case. Closed.

Oh, and since the governor is blue and gets to choose the replacement, nothing changes and it’s a wash in terms of power anyway.

A politician took bribes and no one is coming to his defense. What's to comment on?

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s last-ditch plan to keep the federal government temporarily open collapsed on Friday as hard-right holdouts rejected the package, making a shutdown almost certain.

McCarthy’s right-flank Republicans refused to support the bill despite its steep spending cuts of nearly 30% to many agencies and severe border security provisions, calling it insufficient.

Fleet week might be cancelled due to government shutdown, which is in the same vein of closing down national parks (negligible cost, but punishes the taxpayer). Better make this shutdown last.

The House on Saturday took an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote to avert a shutdown at midnight on Sunday — with the majority of Democrats bailing out the GOP.

Speaker Kevin McCarthy passed the 45-day stopgap funding patch, 335-91, with help from more than 200 Democrats and 90 Republicans voting no. It's an unexpected move that is certain to accelerate a far-right rebellion aimed at taking his gavel. The bill now goes to the Senate, where it is likely to pass just before the shutdown deadline.

Every kid in America’s elementary schools knows what pulling the fire alarm will do. But this United States Representative didn’t know? He’s making himself look even more stupid by saying that.

It defies credulity that this man did not know exactly what he was doing. Does this office building have different fire alarms pulls than every other office building in the country? I hope we get a full video of the incident and a picture of the fire alarm in question soon. And if he did what it seems like he did, he shouldn't keep his job. A kernel of doubt lingers in my mind just because of how absolutely stupid and ridiculous actually doing that on purpose would be. I want to believe he's not that stupid and ridiculous. But his story, what little we've heard so far, makes no sense.

Isn't her replacement a D/labor functionary largely unknown to the public? Lorena Gonzalez very publicly worked for the benefit of labor and scored big with AB-5, why did she not qualify? Too junior? Is the bench so depleted they couldn't find anyone with a significant public profile that was qualified?
