Isn't there some kind of nothing punishment Congress can give this guy, so he can shut up and we can move on? Gaetz faced less criticism, and he flew a teenage prostitute across the country.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Can we punish the Dems too, since they’re largely the ones who got McCarthy kicked out?

Such a head-in-ass move. They think more party chaos will make them better positioned next November, and it just might. But it’s also a clear demonstration of the most corrosive sort of leadership.
yes, we can punish them too

it's like gambling with the fate of the country

for the sake of attempted election wins

It would've been a cuck move for the Democrats to vote to save Kevin McCarthy on Monday after they watched Kevin McCarthy brag about bipartisanship and being the "adult in the room" on Saturday, then turn around and blame and insult the Democrats and claim that they wanted to shut down the government on Sunday. Please more, Daddy. No

Guy has never tried to be the leader of the whole Congress, why should Democrats save him from his own caucus?
Please consider voting for me

Personally, I would’ve favored saving McCarthy just for the “Dems cross party lines to defend speaker” headlines aimed at the trags of the world. But a Republican speaker saved by Democrat votes would be dead in the water and fully incapable of anything resembling budget negotiations. It would be primary bait for most Republican representatives to even be seen working with him, after that. The difference in resulting dysfunction would be roughly zero.

Look at how conditioned you’ve become to congressional mediocrity. None of this makes sense.
What about it doesn't make sense? It seems like you want Democrats to act as if they're in a better world than the one that exists.

Which is fine. I'm guessing lots of people would say they do. But trag said

It just isn't the obligation of the minority party to save the moderate leadership from the opposition party when he loses (never had) control of his caucus.

I think it's possible to make the argument that McCarthy is better for the Democrats than whoever else it will be and the next 15 months would be better with him as Speaker than whoever replaces him.

I just looked at a wikipedia article on the history of votes for Speaker and it sure looks from a quick glance that virtually every Speaker vote ever has been on a party line: the minority party votes for their leader as Speaker. I think it's very tough to make the case that Democrats had any kind of obligation to save McCarthy.
