Imagine a world where lightning bolt isn’t the worst Pearl Jam album

that would be an interesting title if it wasn't just going to be another metaphor for another bangable chick of Ed's dreams

To be fair, I like both Earthling and the new Stones record, so I don't think Watt's involvement is an automatic kiss of death, even though I'd never put his stylings on my own personal wishlist for a PJ record. I feel pretty come-what-may about new PJ at this point; both Gigaton and Earthling confounded my expectations in a number of ways, so I don't feel super confident in my ability to predict what will cause new PJ music to sink or swim. Glad to take the good where and in whatever form it comes, and (hopefully) forget the bad...

I do really like Earthling and I loved Iggy's record. For whatever reason, it's not working for me with the Stones.

I'm still incredibly psyched to hear new PJ!

Sound, sound, sound.

Whatever, if he gets good songs out of them that's all that matters.

and he got good songs out of EV on earthlings, Iggy, and this new stones. Pretty awesome for artists well into their 30-90 year life cycle

Ten doesn’t sound like shit at all. It’s a bit dated, but it sounds like a band in a room (a moody, reverby room).

I love the organic sound of Vs., Vitalogy, No Code, and Yield. I feel like Ten was just someone yelling “No! Turn up the echo more!”

as luck would have it there is a whole book coming out about this :).

this isnt a phone response question so ill respond in full later. i def see things differently. i do think the albums broadly align like this

ten - vs - vitalogy

no code - yield

binaural - riot act - st - backspacer

backspacer - lightning bolt - gigaton

backspacer really is a pivot record that closes out one arc and introduces the next so i listen twice.[/quote]

There’s a whole book coming out about this?!? Holy balls that’s cool, sign me up!
