The crime that caused an individual to be incarcerated cannot be considered to prevent them from being transferred to a women's prison. So, say rapists or those that murdered their female partner can be transferred.
There are far fewer female prisons, and I don't know if someone in Pelican Bay could easily transfer, but there's clearly an incentive to transfer to a place without a SHU system and you can request the form to register your gender identity/ transfer whenever.
The women's prisons have less segregation by security level, so it's pretty much an automatic upgrade for anyone doing serious time.
I'm guessing they're gonna start giving female inmates long term birth control to try to keep this quieter*.
*Edit: there was a doctor doing hysterectomies without consent not that many years ago, so it's not like this is without precedent.
The state paid out a settlement and that was about it. The spirit of Eugenics in California is not entirely gone.

It's completely insane and I hope the courts put a stop to it. With all the issues in prisons with terrible conditions, food, and medical care, prioritizing gender affirmation over everything else is quite the choice.
I was at a coffee shop today that had "XX" and "XY" on their bathroom doors. I couldn't tell if it was naïve kitsch or if it was a purposeful anti-trans, anti-intersex message.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Nah, it just means urinal or no urinal.

Why not? Where did he go when he was a child? The bushes?
Probably in a bathroom that didn't have a genomic requirement.
Which really didnt exist in a measurable frequency anywhere before the 2010s and somehow folks still managed to pee. I read it as someone who didnt want to say "male" or "female" but still wanted to indicate which one has a urinal option, as in modern gender theory "male" and "female" are not tied to chromosomal sex. The overwhelming majority of XXY folks pee through their dicks and thus would generally favor a urinal. It's important to remember that most XXY folks dont even know they have that condition and that intersex conditions only occur in about 0.018% of the population. So not only is it unlikely an intersex person has ever even been in that store, even if they had they likely wouldn't have been aware of their obligation to feel offended by a bathroom sign that guided them to the easier pissing spot.
