I remember him trying to be all snob about the fact that he made a horror movie with Hereditary

I've never seen Hereditary - is it actually scary or is it one of those movies that presents you with uncomfortable truths about existence?

Nearly every great artist I love has had a kind of contentious relationship with the way audiences and critics engage with and categorize their work, from Godard to Prince, Björk, Ridley Scott, Elvis Costello. I like it, I think it's fun when they're salty

yeah i love it too, specially when they look back after a while and think about that movie or album.

Its refreshing to see them having that kind of interaction. Its pretty human.

Haven't seen Beau is Afraid but I personally didn't care for Hereditary or Midsommar.

It seems like people who didn't like Hereditary or Midsommar (like you and me) enjoyed Beau is Afraid, and people who loved Hereditary and Midsommar didn't like it

Yesterday I went to see a movie at the Angelika in The Village. Normally, I exclusively go to an Alamo Drafthouse to see movies. This was the first movie I've seen in NYC at a theater other than Alamo in like... 4 years? 5 years? Something like that. It's been a long fucking time.

It was nice. The Angelika is still a great place to see movies.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

It's still there. I haven't been there myself in a while, but in 2016 I saw Andrew Haigh's 45 Years and Pablo Larrain's Jackie there.

The last thing I saw at IFC was either Digging For Fire which included a talkback with Jake and Joe.... or else it was the 4k restoration of Eraserhead.

Don't remember which came first.

Either way, love IFC. Really need to get back there.

That Furiosa movie is a prequel? Starring that boring alien-looking girl who is inexplicably in every movie now? Ugh. Just fuck it then.
