The only song I don’t care for on Riot Act is Love Boat Captain. I’ve even come to really like Bushleaguer; maybe not a song I seek out on its own, but fits wonderfully on a full album listen. Thumbing My Way is decent, but also not one I seek out. I love Arc coming in between 1/2 full and All or None. I don’t consider it “fat” because it ties things so well thematically and atmospherically. Only other complaint is that is with Save You; while it’s a great song, it suffers most from how Ed sings and how the guitars sound on the album.

I’m having a riot act renaissance lately. I put it above Binaural. Probably their most underrated album.

Riot Act is literally perfect as is. There's no need to drop/change/reorder/adjust/cut/add anything.

I listened to it this afternoon and you are correct.

I love the outtakes, but they don't fit on the album.

I love the vibe of Riot Act 25 percent of the songs suck. So to me it is a missed opportunity.

Funnily enough I used to dislike the morose vibe of the album, but I love it now. Of all the albums, this one I’ve come to love even more years later.

Can we also acknowledge the heroes of that album, Jeff and Matt, for writing some of the best songs on it: Help Help, 1/2 Full, Cropduster, You Are, not to mention Ghost and Get Right.

Im a huge fan of LBC. Everything works for me, the band is super tight and Ed´s voice is filled with emotion while he is also showing that good old restraint he had around that era or No Code.

Also

And the young, they can lose hope
'Cause they can't see beyond today
The wisdom that the old can't give away, hey
Constant recoil
Sometimes life don't leave you alone

Thats among my favorite lyrics from any band ever.

First half of Riot Act is fire. It's all over the shop the latter half. No flow to it whatsoever.

My feeling is they should have stuck another couple of tracks on it and made it a double album. Double albums are designed to have that everthing-and-the-kitchen-sink vibe. It's just weird on a normal album.

I echo all of this. And the delivery of those lyrics are so good too.

There's a discussion on another thread about the virtues (or lack thereof) of Seven O'clock and its lyrics and delivery. LBC is how you get it right.

God damn Love Boat Captain is arguably my favorite song on the whole album.
