Usher was alright. It was way lighter on scares and it features something Flanagan has been doing a lot since the hit of Hill House, which is very talkative charactes. They talk and talk and expose and point out, and sometimes is great (midnight mass) and sometimes its not.

All in all the series is fun and deserved a watch but its minor compared to other stuff in his career. The cast is amazing as always, specially Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood and Mark fucking Hamill.

Just watched the first ep. I enjoyed it. Tom Skerrit would have been the perfect Roderick Usher 15 years ago.

yeah, good call. I think Timothy Hutton was going to play it, as Hutton was in Hill House and Flanagan keeps working with the same actors, but he was out because of those sexual assault allegations.

He would have been good but Greenwood is really good anyway. Flanagan know how to direct actors.

Antlers. It had a lot of promise. There was a really good movie in there somewhere. It wasn't bad by any means just under baked.

Totally agree. This was what killed midnight club and was a major distraction in Usher too. We know the Ushers are stand-ins for the Sackler family. We get it. Jeez.

I love the Flanalogues, it's a real unique feature of his style; yes I agree it works best in Midnight Mass but I think the best argument for it in Usher is that it harks back to Poe's plush, verbose, more is more internal-thought prose style; I think Flanagan chose to nod at that even if it came across campy and laboured, and I like that

I really like his dialogue and how good he is with actors. Im sure every actor want to work with him, he makes them shine. But i feel after Midnight Mass, he needs to dial that a bit down and focus on the scary parts more.

Seems the next project is a movie, and im exited about that because it would trim this a bit at least, and i hope he gets to be really scary again.

The cast for the movie is awesome! Matthew Lillard is onboard with pretty much everyone coming back, even Karen Gillian. And Mia Sara will be featured too!

I watched both of these movies this weekend. Very different movies and hard to compare the two.

When Evil Lurks was effectively creepy a lot of the time with some outstanding moments and imagery. A few legit gasps. But yeah, not quite equal to the sum of its parts.

Hurricane Season was very good. I like the alternate POV framework. I was waiting for the “When Evil Lurks” part of it to kick in, but this movie does a great job of gradually pulling the rug out from underneath you.

I tend to agree. A lot of times a “hugely dramatic last act” is the worst part of a movie.

Very fun, gory. The fact that that make John the hero on this one is so fucking funny. Everything with the kid was laughable.

Ep 2 of S3 of Chucky is very good. This season looks way better than the previous ones so far, and the gore its cool. Im still surprised on how fun and wicked this series is.

"Sicilian Ghost Story" (2018) is a really good Italian horror / fantasy / coming-of-age romance film based on harrowing real events, and clearly inspired by Pan's Labyrinth
