This is the standard response from a young rock crowd these days when ANY band pulls out a rare song. Even bands who play different setlists every night. You'll hear something that would have gotten a loud cheer 20 years ago but now it's silence and a smattering of applause, and someone near the taper's mic will say "Why aren't they playing that song I hear on the Lithium channel?".Ello Sailor wrote:First time since 1997 by the way. Crowd is all "aw yeh, song's awright I guess."
Twats, the lot of them.

yeah, 16 years i think? he was very good both times i saw him with the band. I wonder if he was just tired and wanted to make his music or there was some drama behind this.

I'm not surprised, it felt like he was kind of superfluous once James Iha rejoined full-time (which is still a crazy thing to have happened), even though their playing styles couldn't be more different.

yeah, i felt that way in their first tour, but i kinda feel Jeff was way more important in studio and live these days than James. Its going to be interesting to see how the band regroup with Billy and James alone. Well see.

Re: Crucify the Insincere: A Smashing Pumpkins Thread
Bit of a bummer. Jeff was tasked with playing most of the more demanding guitar parts live, so James has his work cut out.
That's not to say James is a lousy guitarist, but he and Billy are getting on in years. It'll take a lot more prep work to perform their older, guitar-driven songs at that same level. I predict fewer rarities popping up in setlists.
As for the drama, I strongly doubt there is any. Billy's ego may be a little bruised, but the official SP social media acct(s) gave him a heartfelt sendoff. That doesn't happen if you're on Billy's shit list. The man is pettiness personified.

Re: Crucify the Insincere: A Smashing Pumpkins Thread
Got a few live SP shows on the agenda this week:
Chicago 10/23/95
Dusseldorf 4/7/96
Charlotte 8/6/98
The first two were shows I had on CD bootleg in the ‘90’s, recently tracked down for max nostalgia; the ‘98 show is just a great sounding Adore show, with a version of “Stumbeline” that’s just lovely. SP kick incoming…

Watched that Dusseldörf show a lot in the early-to-mid 00s. Back then we just called it "Rockpalast".

I had a bootleg CD of it in the ‘90’s — it was called “Rocknight” and probably cost me $40. Some monster performances on there.
