Re: What are you playing?
Props for still playing shooters well into your 40s. That's a young man's domain. I'm all about strategy/tactics games nowadays.

Re: What are you playing?
Divinity: Original Sin 2. Others include Pillars of Eternity and sequel Deadfire. Then there's Shadowrun: Returns, Dragonfall and Hong Kong. Also BATTLETECH.
Y'know, hardcore nerdy shit with either turn-based or real-time-with-pause combat.

Re: What are you playing?
Yeah, X-Com is brutal, especially with the intended difficulty basically being the equivalent of "iron man" mode in other games, where party members stay dead.
I don't have the patience for that level of masochism.

Re: What are you playing?
One day I'll man tf up and conquer them. It just sucks that X-Com 2 looks superior in every way. Maybe I'll just skip to that.

Re: What are you playing?
I was actually thinking of X-Com 2. Never played the first one.
I think my next game will be Baldurs Gate 3. I'll probably pick it up over the holidays when I have more time to devote to it.

As an adult, permadeath strategy games are the only allowable time where resetting your game is permissible.
Long live Fire Emblem!

Re: What are you playing?
I liked Xcom 2 a lot, I felt the difficulty was tough but fair (as in, whenever my team got wasted, I could always trace it back to a mistake I made, which helped me improve my gameplay along the way). I never beat it, though, as the final boss insta-killed my high-level characters every time I tried it. I could’ve used a strategy guide to help, I’m sure, but it would’ve taken so long to build my team back up to full strength.
I’m interested in the Lamplighter’s League on game pass, which seems like a Lovecraftian Xcom clone, but I am worried about falling into the same trap (sinking hours into it only to never finish it).

Re: What are you playing?
I'm hoping Midnight Suns gets down to $15 on Black Friday. It's an XCOM-lite game.
