I bet she's still a virgin,
but it's only twenty-five 'til nine.
Prob'ly lets the records play
on heart attack and vine.

The thing is, there was much more potential in this song than Supersonic ever had. So it's better as a song, but it's more disappointing at the same time.

It had more potential than Supersonic, but only because it's a more open-ended and barebones design. Supersonic is a pretty good description of what that other song is....can't do a whole lot with wuggawuggawuggawugga. This lick, you could take anywhere you wanted to go. Pearl Jam just didn't take it anywhere at all.

I can't get this song out of my head. It's like I've been Rickrolled by Pearl Jam, only its Shania Twain singing.

I guess you finally hit the 26 play threshold that allows you to finally enjoy it, then.

Oh no, I certainly despise it and everything it represents.

Thanks for talking this through with me, guys. I can finally make peace with it as the almost-good song that it is. I probably won't skip it.

Having said that, last night I suddenly realised how good this album would be if SW went straight into SBM, and YM finished it. 10 songs for the 10th album. Would've worked.

It would've been stronger, for sure. And, then, we'd have the interminable complaints:

"We waited 4 effing years and all they could come up with is 10 songs, including one reworked uke song!"

I think YM would be too dark for a closer

Like "All or None" was too dark for a closer? Hell, even "The End" finished with "I'm here, but not much longer (sharp intake of breath)".

This is true. These days I would rather they give us fewer and better songs. They did it this time. It would be cool if they did it next time again. But I might join the No Leak Club for the next one (and stay in it).

Try staying in it for at least one day next time. It got easier with each passing day. It certainly made this album a more enjoyable listening experience than the previous ones.

Yeah, Yellow Moon would have worked better as a closer. It wouldn't have been great; the way it ends feels like there's something that needs to follow it up, but it probably would have been preferable to how it ended up.

all or none is on a dark, defeatist record. And all or none was in some respects just anticipating lyrical themes in sirens. Yellow Moon would probably be too dark.

When it comes to novelty songs of the last three albums:

Big Wave > Supersonic > Let The Records Play
