They should at least release physical media or a pay-to-own download of the stuff they're removing for those that actually want it.

Still waiting on my Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Blu-ray that probably won't come out until Netflix dies.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the content that streamers are dumping ends up on a PlutoTV or equivalent channel down the line where they can monetize through commercials. That's the future really which is to say going back to the old way.

I don't think anyone here actually gives a shit about any of the shows Disney is purging. We're just talking about the business model in general.

This is what I heard HBO was doing with shows like Westworld that it purged. I looked at the Disney list and many of them were behind the scenes and making-of shows, so I imagine those will just disappear, while the original series will get rented out to small streamers.bada wrote:I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the content that streamers are dumping ends up on a PlutoTV or equivalent channel down the line where they can monetize through commercials. Although I can easily imagine a future where Disney does something like what they used to do with DVDs, I.e., put select movies and shows “in the vault” (take them off Disney+) so they can try and push sales in other ways. Wall-E just had a Criterion release, so they’re still committed to physical media in some ways.

I'm looking forward to the free tv apps that all these companies are going to launch. I have PlutoTV on in the background a lot.Simple Torture wrote:This is what I heard HBO was doing with shows like Westworld that it purged. I could never go back to commercials. Having to watch them during sports is bad enough.bada wrote:I'm looking forward to the free tv apps that all these companies are going to launch. Yeah, I'd rather pay to rent a movie than watch it on Pluto.Simple Torture wrote:I could never go back to commercials. Oh I agree if there is something I really wanna watch I'm not dealing with commercials but I work from home and I'd rather have an old tv show on in the background than cable news or sports debate shows. I just like the idea of having several free tv apps that have a bunch of content I think its good for consumers and will kill cable faster.JuanHamm wrote:Yeah, I'd rather pay to rent a movie than watch it on Pluto.Simple Torture wrote:I could never go back to commercials. Haven’t read the article yet, but will, and I’m wondering if the non-Disney properties will still be on Hulu.
Let me tell you, Homer Simpson is cock of nothing!

I hope so. They're paying like $8 billion (at least) for it, which I would think means they want all that sweet, sweet content.wease wrote:Haven’t read the article yet, but will, and I’m wondering if the non-Disney properties will still be on Hulu.

Honestly, I can’t think of anything NBC-wise that we really use Hulu to watch. Most of the stuff we watch on there is either Fox or ABC stuff.epilogue wrote:I hope so. When I see this, all I can think of is the price hike.
