Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I may do a marathon of all the Rocky flicks. Looks like they’re all on Max. The Creed movies are not tho. Looks like I’ll have to rent them. I’ve not seen any of those.

The Devil All The Time

I only made it halfway through this. Basically misery porn with religious weirdos. Not really feeling it.

Got the first two Rockys in last night. It had been probably the 80s since I had seen either of these. I had totally forgotten he was a collector for the local mob hood. And I didn’t remember him smoking as much at all. Discovered Michael Dorn (Worf!) was in it as a bodyguard for Apollo.
In the second, I had forgotten his trepidation for fighting Apollo again was because he might be blinded. I really noticed how things from these movies were recycled for the later movies. Weathers is so fucking good in these. A perfect foil.

I quickly remembered how formulaic they all are. Conflict > training > match. As a kid watching them, it didn’t bother me. We’ll see if it does thru these rewatches.

Next up: I Pity The Fool!

Ok I guess. Marvel movies are kinda washed at this point

It's definitely rough, it does change gears from the religion element that is very strong but it certainly isn't an autumnal walk in the park.

The book is proving to be harsher but actually fleshing out the characters is quite welcome. That said, if they attempted to stay 100% faithful to the book I don't feel anyone would have seen it.

Was it funnier and more heartwarming and better looking than statutory rape?
