That's funny because if I hear him say Marty is brilliant one more time I might have to stop listening to his dumb, reductionist, borderline misogynist podcast forever.

Amanda has terrible taste, but thank God she's there to reign in Sean's bullshit. Without her the show would be offensive.

Re: The Killer - I’m going to go with “rather good”

No, not top-tier Fincher, but I liked it. I was into it the whole time. I’m not normally a ‘fight scene guy’, but that fight scene was impressive.

I love that he was a big Smiths fan

I will not listen unless Chris Ryan is there. Not a big fan of Amanda either, I much prefer Mallory Rubin.

I’m angry this wasn’t a wide theater release first.

RM isn’t in Netflix’s pocket.

Also, we didn't say it was "meh". As a collective I think we landed on "pretty good"!

People just love tossing around the word "masterpiece" is all.

(I am also guilty of this)

We’re grading Fincher on his own curve here.

Honestly I’d feel differently if it were on HBO or Apple. The Netflix brand identity at this point is basically “for when you’re looking for something noncommittal to watch while also scrolling your phone.”
haven't watched this yet, plan to, but good timing in that Netflix has basically came out this week and said as much about their programming.

Arrival is, in fact, a masterpiece and don't let anyone tell you otherwise

It did bother me that as cold and calculating as he was, he didn’t think to just shoot that dog?

He was also considerate enough to make sure that the secretary’s kids got her life insurance by making it look like she broke her neck falling down the stairs, instead of making her disappear. That was nice.

The entire movie after the botched hit is him not being cold and calculating. He breaks all of his own rules and makes mistakes.

I liked it quite a bit. I thought it was a movie we've all seen many times, done the way only Fincher could have done it. Like the art of painting still life fruit; everyone knows what an apple is supposed to look like, but how can you paint it the way only you can?
Spoiler: show
I thought he may have intentionally missed the shot and failed the assassination in the beginning, if only subconsciously so he can get out of the miserable lifestyle he's grown so accustomed to and bored of. He was at the top of his game with many years of experience, so he was ready to put it all to the test against his colleagues and burst through to ultimately find his freedom.

I’m starting to think this movie is an intentional comedy.
