Does it bother your actual family that you're so distant and aloof?
And they say that a hero could save us

Sure I get along fine with my immediate family. I talk to them about once every couple weeks. Or three. They have shit taste in other people though.

Wait, is everyone's parents happily married to each other? How provincial and quaint.

I have a great relationship with my stepdad. He married my mom when I was an adult, so he’s always been more of a good friend than a parent.

I think he thinks of my sister and me more as his kids now, as his two sons are estranged and have done nothing to help him as his Parkinson’s accelerates.

My parents and Mrs Wease’s parents are still together. I have step-uncles and cousins but no siblings.

I have an (ex?) stepson from my previous marriage. He and I grew close when I lived with him. He is now an adult and married and doing well, and we kept in touch. We call each other on birthdays and holidays, and see each other if we are in town or nearby.

I have three stepchildren in my current marriage. The oldest is a senior in college (21 year old stepson) and the middle is a freshman in college (18 year old stepdaughter). The youngest is a 13 year old stepson. I've grown very close with all of them, and they seem to have accepted me into their lives, although it was definitely a slow and sometimes challenging process.
