‘This is the moment we have been warning the whole world of’

Al Jazeera has spoken to Gaza Deputy Health Minister Dr. Youssef Abu Alreesh, currently inside al-Shifa Hospital as it is takes heavy fire from Israeli forces.

Here are his translated comments:

This is the moment we have been warning the whole world of, all generators are off, all power sources are out.
We have 39 newborns in the incubators, those babies are fighting against death.
No one is able to move around the compound, snipers are stationed all over the place in addition to the drones that target and kill any moving person.
A few minutes ago one of the engineering team was hit by a sniper, he was hit in the neck and was paralysed and he’s now about to die.
Part of the hospital was shelled and part of the building caught fire, we fear it will engulf the whole compound.
A few families tried to leave but they were targeted; now they are lying dead outside the hospital. We cannot get to them.
We are totally stranded, we are cut off from the outside world, and above all, we are left without any medical resources. We cannot even bury the dead.
Ferocious gunfire can be heard within the vicinity of the hospital, the intensive care unit received a mortar shell a few minutes ago.
Blood is everywhere, on the floor, we cannot even clean it.
In the past, the Israeli killing machine was killing and this was conveyed on TV screens. Now they are perpetrating the same killing but no one is listening, no one is watching, the whole world is standing by.
We are speaking with whatever is left of my phone battery, after that, we will be silent.

That hospital is awfully well defended for a civilian medical facility.

There is nobody ‘defending’ that hospital and you know it.

IDF are sitting outside shooting at patients they’ve put in there in the first place and at doctors and nurses.

I’ll take Doctors Without Borders word on this before yours if that’s ok

They’re openly admitting it’s genocide now. Just in case you missed it.

Tv report with video. Inside hospital

Clinging onto life: the premature babies trapped in Gaza hospital
By Keme Nzerem
Conditions continue to deteriorate at major hospitals across northern Gaza, cut off by the intense fighting between Israel and Hamas.

A Palestinian official says three premature babies have now died at Gaza’s biggest hospital, al-Shifa, because there is no power for incubators.

And the second biggest, al-Quds, has suspended operations.

Israel continues to bomb supposedly safe areas in the south – one air strike on a house in Khan Younis reportedly killing 13 people.

This, as disease spreads and people survive on tiny amounts of food and water.

Sneaky Zionists have subverted the way back machine, so not sure of the specifics.

Seems absolutely insane to live that close to the Gaza fence without carrying firearms at all times. Israeli gun control laws have been ineffectually targeted at preventing West Bank settlers from pogroming their neighbors while also having a religiously neutral basis to prevent Israeli Arabs from arming themselves.

Huh, sounds kind of familiar

Israel has already indicated they would provide safe passage for the infants. The hospital has chosen not to act on it.

One more time, IDF are actively shooting into the hospital. Through every window and door.
35+ patients and staff including three premature babies have died since they’ve started firing and power has been cut off.
They’re no more interested in letting anyone out of there alive. If they wanted to get patients out into safety they would have by now. They don’t.

Dime, you understand there are reporters and video from the locations right? We can literally see the evacuations happening in near real time.

Yikes. Sounds like Hamas is having success radicalizing Gaza’s general pop. I guess the Hippocratic Oath isn’t much of a thing there.

Hamas lived like this while the people of Gaza struggled daily. They committed an atrocity that brought the Israeli military back into Gaza while hoping a new region war would start, assuming the other Arab states would join in the fight once they saw the martyred bodies of Gazan children piling up. It's heartbreaking that the world doesn't see the real villain here and how there is no chance for peace until Hamas is gone.

Are we about to find out that the qualifications for working for Médecins Sans Frontières in Gaza are:
1) Deep Ideological commitment opposing the Zionist project
2) Studied incuriosity about what Hamas infrastructure is in or around the hospital

If only we could find those people who are bombing the entire region with white phosphorus and shooting doctors in the neck and whoever it is turning off all the power to the hospitals and refugee camps that keep getting bombed by the people who keep making refugee camps
(Population over 700,000 now) and make them stop.

Here's the head of the WHO plainly stating the same:
"We are extremely disturbed by reports of airstrikes in the vicinity of Al-Shifa hospital in #Gaza. Many health workers we were in contact with have been forced to leave the hospital in search of safety. Others report being unable to move due to grave insecurity. Many of the thousands sheltering at the hospital are forced to evacuate due to security risks, while many still remain there."
