Re: Do you have good relationships with your extended family
my dads side of the family i have a good relationship with one cousin and my aunt (his mom), 2 cousins and their kids and wives, 1 cousin and her husband. another cousin (their brother) i try to avoid any updates about as it just isnt worth it. while his marriage was hitting the shitter he reached out to my then current GF and wanted to get together with her. then after he was dating someone and introduced him to another girlfriend a few month later he again tried to arrange meeting her for dinner.
other cousins (two female and one male, i dont know their extended family too well as they live in ohio and michigan.) i get along great with as i do with their mom and dad.
my other uncle and his wife i keep at an arms distance. my uncle posted on fb if you want to stay friends post here and i didnt see it so i got defriended. and here i thought i was the childish one of the family
my moms side of the family we all get along great and holidays are such a fun time. my cousins wives kind of shake their heads because we make fun of each other and laugh at the stupidest of things

Re: Do you have good relationships with your extended family
I haven’t really kept in touch with my dad’s side since his passing. He was an only child so it’s all second cousins, etc.
I’ve always been closer with my mom’s side (six brothers). They’re all very liberal and outspoken, which is fine but it has sometimes led to feuds. Very opinionated bunch. I keep out of all that to avoid conflict, and I’m not a bleeding heart type anyway.

Re: Do you have good relationships with your extended family
To keep things interesting, my older cousin on my mom’s liberal side has become very conservative and outspoken over the years. She operates a known conservative website in the area. She’s also nuts, and has been ostracized by the family. Every six months or so, she pings the family email chain to remind us that we’re all horrible people who put politics ahead of blood. This is usually sparked by someone in the family responding in opposition to one of her conservative Facebook posts. I read her ramblings then delete them and don’t think about them again til the next time.Peeps wrote:thats my facebook uncle. i am by no means a trump fan but he was definitely the definition of TDS. he actually called my brother a nazi because he didnt condem trump (my brother leans conservative). it was then i decided i would distance myself from himspike wrote:I haven’t really kept in touch with my dad’s side since his passing. My extended family on my dad's side are all very traditional and religious. We get along well but the moment we start discussing God or politics there's only so far we can go before one party decides to change the subject. But yeah we get along

Re: Do you have good relationships with your extended family
My extended family has all but died. I have one cousin left - who has isolated himself away from the family. When I tried to visit - and check in on him, his wife, and son, after pandemic travel restrictions eased- he made up a bunch of excuses then set the parameter that we could meet for a take out lunch in a park but had to sit far apart and wear masks. I was traveling to see him. So a sack lunch in the park was fine. Whatever.
I got there and the morning we were set to meet in the park, he calls to cancel.
Good luck with the rest of your life, cousin comrade.

No one besides my parents. Half my family lined up and consoled my mom like I was dead when I came out. The other half I burned that bridge with my odd behavior when I was using. Since I’ve been clean I’d love to mend some of the relationships, but I don’t even know if it’s worth the effort.

Yes, they are all fine to great people who make time to help each other when needed. I wouldn't say I am super close with many, but we are on friendly terms with everyone. I'm sure we would be closer if we lived in the same state.
I'm closer to my wife's extended family because they together much more frequently, which includes a week long reunion at a lake resort each summer.

Re: Do you have good relationships with your extended family
I have cousins on my mom’s side of the family I’m very close to. Also, aunts and uncles. On my dad’s side we weren’t around many of the cousins our age but there are two we grew up quite close with but don’t really see that much anymore. We never had a first cousin on that side until I was already an adult as my dad’s brother didn’t get married until later in life. I’m kinda close with him as he was always into Star Wars and Star Trek and we’ll talk about that when we get together but I’ve never really been close to her.
Let me tell you, Homer Simpson is cock of nothing!

Re: Do you have good relationships with your extended family
Used to be incredibly tight, but through the years it's a little less every year. A bit sad really, but life an be like that. Everyone gets older, someone dies. I applaud those who manage to keep a tight extended family.
