Of the three, I think it had the most potential in a lot of ways — great verses, really strong vocal performance. Happy Trees is right that the chorus holds it back. I dig it though, warts and all.

How about SOLAT and Breath?

Those were set aside for "Singles" ahead of time I thought. And they hadn't finished "State" yet when Ten came out. That was recorded later with Mister Cymbals.

No. There’s that demo version with Krusen that was released with the Ten re-release. There isn’t much at all that’s different between the two versions.

Two better somgs than Wash left out. They were also played earlier than Wash, so completing them or not had nothing to do with it.

Disagree with you that they couldn’t have fitted on Ten.

Wait, so Hold On was recorded at that very first session? I don’t think I realized it went back that far.

And I agree State and Breath would have worked on Ten. Especially with Krusen’s drumming.

I can see keeping Breath off Ten due to its similarities to Alive - those two songs are doing something fairly similar. Of course they're both awesome so it's not a great reason, but it is a reason.

Wash and SOLAT could have been on the record and it could have been 13 songs long and even more amazing

Yes, and they also just don't fit in with the rest of Ten. There's an uptempo energy that is otherwise lacking from that record.
They also would've stuck out by being way better than everything else on the album
