Can we all at least agree that they’re both better than Deep?

Wow… I’m surprised to see so much Deep appreciation. I’ve never appreciated that one. Might be the true weak spot on Ten.epilogue wrote:Leatherhead wrote:Absolutely not.Vitalogist wrote:Can we all at least agree that they’re both better than Deep?

I think they're both As, but yeah, if one is better than the other, it's SOLAT.Birds in Hell wrote:Wrong way round.E.H. Ruddock wrote:Breath, yes. SOLAT is a B-Vitalogist wrote:Breath and SOLAT are definitely A+ songs.

I always saw those two songs as the band taking all the things about their Ten era sound that were good, maximizing it, and stripping away all the corny shit

pearl jam has always been sentimental and optimistic and open hearted even in most of their darkest moments. its really a question of how much they’re trying to hide it

SOLAT deserves respect but for me Breath>>>>>SOLAT. Not close. Breath top 1/3, SOLAT is bottom 1/3 in the catalog.
I’m not big on Deep but it belongs on Ten. It’s an important part of the album.
I love the production on Ten and I agree they made excellent choices as to what made it on the album.

Garden is so good. I never get tired of it. Really fun to play Stone’s finger picking.

Breath
What is… a song Pearl Jam never played live while Jack Irons was in the band?

2 cents:
Penny #1 - Deep and Garden are probably my least favorite songs on Ten, but agree that they belong there in an album that comes from a dark place both personally and how that darkness colors that perspective on society (Even Flow, Why Go, Jeremy, and Porch also speak to this, so they are a perfect fit I think both lyrically and sonically).
Penny #2 - Breath and SOLAT are both Pearl Jam all-timers. Breath for some reason feels to me like something pre-Ten that bridges the sonic gap between Mother Love Bone and Pearl Jam while SOLAT seems like a natural step forward in vibe towards the sounds they would capture on Vs.
