Also, though, I adored the monologues in Usher. Both Mary McDonnell and Carla Gugino are both such phenomenal talents that I would honestly watch an entire hour long monologue from each of them.![]()
yes please
That's a lot of what Midnight Mass is and why it worked so well.

Re: TVG Presents: All Things Horror.
sure, a lot of his best scenes are two-character exchanges, like the "therapy" sessions between Riley and Father Paul, but Midnight Mass had a big cast and a lot of intertwining plot threads

Abstentia has the single location element but its not good. He was clearly learning.
But Oculus is amazingly good.
Hush has the single location element but no dialogue of course.
Gerald's game has both.

When Evil Lurks.
Damn so brutal. I loved it, and I was surprised by it. Never sure what was going to happen. The ending remind me of another great movie ; Son with Andy Matichak

I liked Absentia, for all its flaws; I need to rewatch Occulus, and I thought Gerald's Game was just OKVinylGuy wrote:Thats Oculus.Ms Harmless wrote:I would very much like to see a single-location, two-actor (or three, tops) movie from Flanagan, a la Benson & Moorheadepilogue wrote:100%Ms Harmless wrote:I love the Flanalogues, it's a real unique feature of his style; yes I agree it works best in Midnight Mass but I think the best argument for it in Usher is that it harks back to Poe's plush, verbose, more is more internal-thought prose style; I think Flanagan chose to nod at that even if it came across campy and laboured, and I like that

Getting excited for Thanksgiving despite myself. If I do like it, it’ll be the first of Roth’s movies I’ve really enjoyed since Cabin Fever.

The Beasts / As Bestas
a great Galician psychological thriller I'm calling a horror because it was scarier than some horrors I've seen this year

Re: TVG Presents: All Things Horror.
Do you guys enjoy when your horror is silly? I have no problem when that's the tone of the whole movie, but I find it problematic when feels like a bad decision. I hate Malignant for example.
Having said that, I absolutely love bad or inept horror movies.

I need to rewatch Malignant. I had a pretty negative reaction to it when I saw it in the theater, but it really seems like something I should like.

Re: TVG Presents: All Things Horror.
I tend to like my horrors pretty serious and sombre, but there are times when a light dusting of camp is good, if it helps to set off the darkness and "message" (I do like my social-commentary too); this year I absolutely adored both Skinamarink and Evil Dead RiseHypnosomnia wrote:Do you guys enjoy when your horror is silly? I was enjoying Saw X for as long as I was enjoying it because there's just a hint of silly... until they poured a vat of silliness all over and the movie choked in it

Finished Usher. It was fine. A distant 3rd behind Hill House and Bly Manor. Do I need to watch Midnight Mass? I think I want to, but the trailer makes it look more like Usher than the other two.

MM is pretty awesome, but yes you will find a lot of scenes with characters talking. But i would say its way better than Usher or more scary at least.daft twat wrote:Finished Usher. It was fine.
