I imagine it would feel more that way if we didn't already have a bajillion live versions of each song. I think the official bootleg program has overall been an awesome thing, but I think something I've learned from it is that PJ doesn't really have "definitive" versions of most songs. Really most versions of their songs sound pretty much the same.
Yup.

I listened to the iTunes samples of the songs in this package, and it felt like plenty.

Walk With Me is a great song for Eddie. It plays so well to his strength as a singer.

Acoustic#1 was an incredible find by whoever unearthed it.
Those are the 2 biggest highlights for me on the soundtrack.

The book was good but it was also repetitive iirc.

Listening to this today for the first time in a while. An extremely weird curio in the PJ canon; in many ways I respect that they put out something so scrappy and decidedly non-definitive to commemorate this milestone event that was otherwise a gigantic hype circus.

I could be mistaken but I think this is a different (better) mix of the PJ10 “Crown of Thorns” than was used on the official boot. Sounds lovely. And I totally forgot this completely off-the-cuff “Let Me Sleep” from 2006 — a really great fly-on-the-wall moment.

Totally agree with all of that. I was only meaning to speak about this album purely as a collection of tracks, and enjoying the somewhat inspired scrap heap that it is as opposed to the much better thing that it could have been but isn’t.

I have to think there is more PJ could put out if they wanted to, and someday I hope they get some archivally-minded folks in their organization who have the heart and grit to corral all their partial show recordings and studio detritus into something fit for consumption, more than just the straight album reissues they’ve been doing (though to be fair, I appreciate that these anniversary reissues haven’t been fitted with some minimal bonus content that might tempt me to buy them; in a lot of ways I am thankful that they’ve put out a lot of easy passes). But for the most part, I’m really happy with everything we have from them, official and unofficial. Whenever I — as a super nostalgic/sentimental guy myself — come back to PJ after a long period away, I am always overwhelmed and delighted rather than disappointed by how much there is to choose from (and I say this completely aware of how much I’ve grumbled about their “vault” program over the years).

Disc 1 is a great companion to the movie. Disc 2 is one big missed opportunity.. it should have collected more demos and rarities. I mean..'chinese'was in the movie ( or extras...) but not on the disc.

I’d have it exactly reversed, except it annoys me that they basically only focus on their first 10 years in the movie.

And pretty much the book. The back half is nowhere near as detailed and in-depth as the front.

Agree. The book is too bloated and repetitive for me to put it first.

The movie was an exciting build up and fun to watch but it was pretty much one and done viewing unless I randomly came across it later. The book I read twice. It was an enjoyable, easy read. The text book presentation worked well for the photos but not so much for the written chapters. The PJ20 album I go back to frequently even if only for a handful of tracks. GTF acoustic inspired me to learn how to play the song and it’s a perfect blend of being fun and challenging but not too difficult for an intermediate guitar player.

Just as entertainment usually plays out for me in general, music > book > video.

The disc that has the full live performances almost exclusively was something I used to go back for. I almost never go back to any of this.
