I admit I wasn’t considering Jaco on bass. Jimi was obviously a talent unmatched by any other before or since but hearing Gilmour’s feel for the instrument is unlike anything I’ve experienced as a listener.

Yeah Gilmour rules. It's purely subjective, so there's really no wrong answer.

Unless your answer is Eric Clapton, of course.

Just listened to the Jaco self titled album for the first time in years. So good. He and Metheny were such a great pairing.

Yeah that Cat Power album is beautiful. Somehow it has reminded me how great the songs truly are and what a great songwriter Dylan was at the time. I've been listening mostly this and the original Dylan recording for the past week.

All else being equal, a song that brought masses of people together is significantly better than a song that did not.

They need to change their name to Boys III Men and then I'd be okay with it.

This past week I found out Hazy Shade of Winter is a Simon and Garfunkel song. No idea how I never heard this before.

A few years ago I heard Mark Knopfler wrote the Tina Turner hit Private Dancer. Crazy.

Did you think Winter was an original Bangles tune?

The Bangles comeback single in 2003 "Tear Off Your Own Head" is originally an Elvis Costello song. That's probably why it flopped!

Wow, even as a decades long Knopfler fan I didn’t know this but as soon as I read your post I could hear it.

In addition, add Knopfler to the list of best fender players ever. His gift for tone outweighs other more talented players.

my top 5 artists in Spotify this year were

RHCP
Smashing Pumpkins (surprising really)
Lana Del Rey
QOTSA
The Rolling Stones

Top 5 songs

The Narcissist - Blur
$20- Boygenius
A&W -Lana
Emotion Sickness - Qotsa
Paper Machete - Qotsa

Weird to see Paper Machete as i dont recall listening to it that much. Surprising to see Taylor or Boygenius are not on the list
BONE FUCKIN´ TOMAHAWK.

Since we're wrapping in this thread:

Top 5 songs:

1. Baroness - The Dirge
2. Qotsa - Paper Machete
3. The Smashing Pumpkins - Cenotaph
4. Blur - Barbaric
5. The Smashing Pumpkins - Steps in Time

Top 5 artists:

1. The Smashing Pumpkins
2. Baroness
3. Qotsa
4. NIN
5. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

526 unique artists, which is way down on last year. I got the "Hypnotist" tag for mostly listening to albums all the way through. Righto. I also apparently share top artists with people in Eugene, Oregon -- which I can only take to mean that Spotify thinks (knows?) I'm a fixie riding chode. Good stuff.

My Spotify top 5 is wildly unsurprising:

1. Pearl Jam
2. Goose
3. Grateful Dead
4. Phish
5. Bruce Springsteen

It’s like it’s making fun of me.
