Re: The Work-Out Thread
7.5 miles in 69 minutes
I was dreaming of trail running all day and as luck would have it, I got a call from the wife right before I left work saying she was gonna take a nap with the baby and my eldest daughter had lots of homework to do. I had "cleanish" running gear in my car and actually wore a pair of NB101s to work (usually wear Chucks). I hit my favorite trail knowing that I was in pretty piss poor shape for a technical trail with 2,000+ feet of elevation change. I took it extremely easy on the way up to the saddle and reached the midway point in 38. I felt great and let it go on the backside of the mountain. I got really dialed in and reached that place in my mind where I was thinking 3 or 4 footfalls ahead, like a game of chess with the mountain. As I turned back toward the front side of the mountain I was greeted by the beginnings of a glorious sunset. I was just killing it at this point, running as fast as I possible could... jumping over boulders, ducking under branches and almost eating shit a couple of times. I made it to the trailhead in 69, which meant I did the back half in 31 minutes. My PR for the trail is 59 minutes and despite the fact that the second half is mostly downhill, it's usually an even split because the back half is way more technical. So I was probably only about 1:30 off my PR pace for the back half of the run. I guess you could say I was sandbagging the first half, but I was legitimately worried about having to walk the back half after bonking the uphill. Great fucking run.

For the life of me I just don't understand how you guys can run like you do.

i think i'd enjoy it a bit more if running on concrete wasn't so hard on my back and running around in circles wasn't more boring than nascar.

10 miles in 68 minutes
I kinda knew that Tuesday's trail run threw the switch and I was ready for training mode. I was planning races and runs all day in my head and I started to get the running twitches about noon. Hit the gym at 5 and was able to grab a treadmill that maxed out at 90 instead of 60 minutes. Set it one notch below 7 minutes (6:53?) and off I went. Pretty much cruised until mile 8, when my right calf tightened up. I downed about half my water (which I hadn't touched) and it seemed to loosen up. Managed a half-mile finishing kick and finished in 68 minutes. Instead of my planned vanity workout, I stood in the outdoor pool for 10 minutes in hopes it would help my calf. It should be fine and won't stop my planned 14-miler on Saturday.

My son now has croup and my wife is sick again, so no trail run today before work. The worst part is that I get a nice view of South Mountain (the place I was gonna run) on my way to work. So there it was, just tempting my running hard-on.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
Did a 55 minute swim before lunch and heading out for a 70 minute trail run in about 15 minutes. I'm starting to enjoy swimming and my trail run has this one bend at about the 55 minute mark that I refer to as the come shot of the run. You just finish a hill, you know there's only one hill and fifteen minutes left. You round this slow corner, the trees open up and you take in the lake surrounded by mountains. That corner, with my heart beating hard makes me so happy to be alive. I never get tired of it.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.
