Their work is travel wherever they want and make hundreds of thousands of dollars to play 2.5 hour shows every third night and see the world. Release an album every 5 years or so to remind people they are still around, and otherwise enjoy their families. Need creative outlets? They have 9 months a year to do with what they please. No one to tell them no. I think they are all in a solid place.
Anyone consider they still love playing live together and making music together and playing their instruments in general? Or is it all just easy peasy payday PRAMG?

Jeff won't quit because then he'll be forced to watch a superior replacement carry the band to the next level

I think they very much still enjoy playing music together but at some point a challenge was made from someone within the band to do more and the successful result was Gigaton. Fair or not, they seem to be at their best when something disrupts that simple love of playing music and they have to fight through it together as a band.

the PRAMG record deal seemed to change who's money was being spent, so they couldn't risk making help helps and get rights no more... they ended their progression of maturing naturally after avocado leaked disc was not as cool as whatever foo fighters were doing in 2005.
i think if they actually liked playing and writing together they wouldn't need wotman to help aging rockers rock again.
I think Pearl Jam is their guaranteed meal ticket. They don't know if anything else will get them great income, and it's getitng a bit late to try. They don't seem to be as much in conctact privately anymore, as they used to be. But I'm sure they are fine with hanging out together while touring.
They don't seem to meet much in the studio anymore.
