Eddie Vedder was definitely cool in the 90s, its only in the 2000s when he became the rocker dad guy that he became less cool but I still love him anyway

Maybe reflect on what it's like to be older and just be real, ya know? Stop trying to be badass, kewl spritzy rawkers and just be honest about some real shit. And please stop writing sentimental love songs.
this was literally the primary theme of the last two albums.
I think that's a bit of an overstatement. Sirens is a song clearly about that and was good despite the adult contemporary vibe, but most of Lightning Bolt felt far too impersonal. Gigaton was good and well produced but Comes Then Goes was one of the only real quiet personal songs. I would like an album much more quiet and personal like Comes Then Goes that reflects on age and life in a way that I'm sure Eddie can. I just don't know which other songs on the last two albums you think felt real and contemplative and dealt with those themes in an affecting way.

In addition Mind Your Manners, My Father's Son, and River Cross are all addressing this explicitly, but it's also absolutely informing songs like Pendulum, Infallible, Yellow Moon, Who Ever Said, 7 Oclock, Quick Escape, SBWM, and Retrograde

Broadly Lightning Bolt is about confronting middle age and realizing you have a lot to lose and the fear of not being worthy of what you've been given. And Gigaton is about the legacy we are leaving behind for the people who will follow, and our failure to live up to our own promise.

These are reflective, middle aged albums, even if they aren't populated exclusively by quiet acoustic songs.

Good points. I guess I want a quieter, slower, sadder vibe. Just personal preference.

Why should growing old be sad? Or quiet?

 Fair point!
"Quieter, slower, sadder" to me sounds like something that would be done better by Vedder solo, and he got a lot of that out of the way on the uke album.
Great idea for a playlist just now.

A few quiet songs on an album are fine, but Pearl Jam should mostly fuckin' rock.

Rocking chair rock is a perfect description of “Rival” and I would be 100% happy for this to be the model for all Pearl Jam music going forward

Not sure about this rocking chair rock. To me
Rival is one of their heavier songs. That groove is enormous. Way more rocking than pretty much any song that has come after it (maybe besides Save You).

You can still bring the thunda in a rocking chair.

It's think it's the mid-tempo, back-and-forth shuffle that gives it the rocking chair vibe.

Haha makes sense that way. But when I think rocking chair I think old and taking naps. Maybe I’ve been using rocking chairs wrong all these years!

I would call a new Pearl Jam album Revision. It would hint at reflection, a new perspective, need to change.

For entertainment purposes only
Revision - Pearl Jam
1. Final Step
2. Sleeping Dogs
3. Dawn of War
4. The Mirror
5. Revision
6. Burn it Down
7. The Horizon
8. Friction
9. Pay the Price
10. Truth & Consequences
11. Reality Check
12. What's Left
