Dan Auerbach curated a various artists blues release this year titled Tell Everybody! (21st Century Juke Joint Blues from Easy Eye Sound) and it very well fits my "workday certified" playlist. Nothing unexpected or groundbreaking here, but I do enjoy the gravelly blues contained within.

Here's Glenn (I see your) Schwartz (is as big as mine) with Joe Walsh doing "Daughter of Zion":

Yeah I really liked that blues collection, mixing the standard sound with some modern twists. Not a weak track in the bunch.

My short review of Peter Gabriel's i/o:

-Production is thrilling, the songwriting less so

-The sum is not greater than the parts. Individually, each song has lots to enjoy, but as a whole the album is way too mid-tempo/low energy.

-Tony Levin's bass work is the clear consistent highlight

Worst songs:
Take your pick from the last four, because it settles into a sleepy ballad vanilla soup and they all blend together.

i have to say, i'm pleasantly surprised how much i like the new album. perhaps it's because i didn't hear any of the songs beforehand (with the exception of the very first one he released). i don't know. but i really like it.

To Melbourne tomorrow morning, hiring a car from the airport and heading off to explore the Mornington Peninsular and then Gippsland all the way across to Mallacoota. Back to Melbourne for Xmas (with a Mick Thomas show thrown in) and then back home for to see the new year in.

I've had a gutfull of work and need to get out of here.

Jay Watson is a member of Tame Impala and a founding member of Pond, and hails from my own home town of Perth WA. He releases solo as GUM and his latest album is a really fine listen. Fans of both bands above won't be surprised at what's on here but he keeps it interesting without getting too freaky.

I was gonna link to album opener Race to the Air, but that's just too close to Tame Impala to show you anything different, so here's album closer It Lies a Lifetime instead.
