it usually happens shortly after falling asleep or right before waking up. for me, it's almost always right after i've fallen asleep. i'm usually still in the room i've fallen asleep in, bedside lamp on or off, and it feels like i'm fully awake, but i cannot move no matter how hard i try. it also feels like something is in the room...a presence. it lasts for what feels like a few minutes, and then i wake up.

it's absolutely terrifying. it happened the other night, and it tends to happen every couple of months.
Is this something that happens in dreams or while awake?
they're dreams, but it feels very real.
I’ve had dreams where I’m on a bicycle and no matter what I can’t make my legs move to pedal it. When I wake up from them, I wonder if I can actually move. I’ve not had one in quite some time, tho.

I had to create a company Christmas gift, and we got the finished product in the mail. The gift was a little felt bag with a cheap rubber action figure and confetti inside, plus a comic that was a Chick Tract on abortion (they wanted to be a little "edgy" and thought this would fit for some reason.) The client however, was not pleased, and made it sound like it was my fault the gift bag was so dumb, even though this was all approved beforehand.

Nothing says Merry Christmas like a Chick Tract on abortion.

When I first read and responded to Burt’s post, I thought this was the “talk about your day” thread a that he actually did that.

I was walking in a field thinking about death and what it would be like, when I came upon a huge barn and went inside. It was so immense that it might be better described as an "industrial barn-like space." There was no one else there. In the back of the barn was a huge horse, about 3 stories tall and tied to a post. It was in distress, pulling on its rope, foaming at the mouth and stomping its hooves. It was ... umm ... "desiring of a mate". I was still far away from it and decided to leave the area before it could no longer control itself, and sure enough it soon started spraying great ropey gouts of horse cum in all directions. I was using a straw hat as a shield but equine splooge was splashing everywhere.

An old lady realized she had left the horse tied up too long and came to check on it. She found me there, lying on the ground behind a wall to avoid the spray. Three of her daughters came and picked me up and began to lead me away toward a house. They were curious about me and wanted to see my face but I was still using the hat to cover it and refused to show them. When we got out of the barn, they asked if their boobs were big enough. Each one struck a pose that emphasized their breasts. One had huge ones, another had medium, and the third had very small ones. It just made me feel old. I was annoyed and didn't want to play whatever game they were playing, and just wanted to go to the bathroom. I took a shower and looked in the mirror and saw that I was about 20 years younger. The girls wanted me to go with them on a drive somewhere, but I didn't want to go, and hid in the bathroom until they left.

I then went outside and started walking in the field again and my mind turned back to death. I said that I was afraid that one day I would die and God would hate me and leave me in the ground. I was afraid that one day I would never see anyone I loved ever again.

Then I woke up and laughed about the horse.

Isn't it crazy that you can think of other things while in a dream (which your brain is already thinking of?) That's some crazy shit. Like, where does that extra processing power come from?

Kamala Harris was the president - don’t know what happened to Biden, dream started whenever Harris was already the prez.

Something happened to her VP. I don’t know who it was or what happened to them.

The dream was Kamala Harris appointing me as her new VP and there was a press conference introducing me.

I have a theory… I slept like a rock last night and also had a very vivid dream. The amount of time that passed in the dream, however, was not equal to the 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep I got. Sure, there could’ve been other dreams that I don’t recall, but what if time passes much differently in dreams? Like, a very detailed dream that covers maybe 1-2 hours of time as we understand it awake actually takes us 7-8 hours to dream?

So to answer your question, more processing power or just a slower, more detailed amount of thinking that presents itself in a smaller, denser chunk to our subconscious?
