What I hope they mean by 'heavy':

Garden
Quick Escape
Rival
Dissident
Hail Hail

What I'm afraid of when they say 'heavy'

Never Destination
Supersonic
Mind Your Manners
Spin The Black Circle

writing together, improvosational solos, heavy. this, in the abstract, is what i want - produced by someone who it seems is drawn to what i love about the band and can bring the best out of eddie

I do love how they seemed to approach the sessions for this one, spent time together in studio with a guy who seemed to pushed them.
But well see, Mike is not the best speaker in terms of whats coming next. Its is kinda cool he mentions that Matt seems to be doing some SG oriented stuff here. Thats a cool mention.

I think by 'heavy' they're talking in the literal sense, i.e. the weight of the CD and vinyl. I don't interpretate Mike's comments as talking about the actual music.

Take The Long Way is one of their best rockers in recent years and to my ears sounds very Soundgardeny. More of that please.

Emphasis on abstract. This feels like they’ve completely put themselves in the hands of a producer who I’m skeptical is up to the task.

Probably my biggest worry is how he's gonna sound. There's parts in LB where he sounds pretty awful.

There are a lot of parts on Gigaton where he sounds fantastic.

Given what Watt did for Mick Jagger, no reason to worry about Eddie Vedder. Jeff/Matt may be of concern though, not to mention guest appearances that they don’t need.

Jeff is probably the least concerning member of PJ, if you're going to be concerned about any of them.

paradoxically, i think they're also the things that hold the studio albums back and relegate the songs to predictable, paint-by-numbers where the band falls into a comfort zone without any degree of creativity or going out on a limb with trying new things.
