Its great. I remember i was proud to see my band in Films&Arts and not in Mtv.evenslow wrote:This is far and away my favorite officially released video of theirs. A nice union of Cameron Crowe, Mark Pellington and Ed's camouflage pants.

It would have been so much cooler if they left the Ed stalker shit in this.

Its cute.Birds in Hell wrote:In answer to your earlier question, I believe it's post-recording and was filmed during the rehearsals for the Rolling Stones support shows in 1997.
I love this period of the band. Eds voice. His hair. His fatigues. The songs. THe grooves. They were still passionate about being Pearl Jam but also loosening up and enjoying being rock stars. A good mix of that.
And the album is just fantastic.
I always took them cutting direclty to DTE as the answer. Being able to make powerful music with a message. Nothing he could have said would come out better than DTE did.VinylGuy wrote:im sure the answer is filmed. This whole thing is great. Way too short. But great.
But I suppose the best videos like these leave you wanting more. Better that, than the alternative.

Re: SVT the thread
Still my favorite PJ DVD. Its just really cool to see them in their private rehearsal space getting creative.
I like when Mike talks about getting afraid of Eddie onstage and they cut to him screaming during DTE, which looks like footage from the Rolling Stones openers and helps pin down when this was filmed. And then seeing extra footage in PJ20 obviously means there's a lot that was cut out, but could've been left in. Its only, what, 45 minutes?
And yeah, that Immortality jam, that wah-wah jam with the flashing artwork. Just some really cool stuff.
And of course... "I might be able to get to an E-bow."

some of the best sequences are just the interstitial stuff with jams playing out in the background. pellington does that kind of thing really well.

The SVT footage in PJ20 was one of the best parts about PJ20. Certainly more candid and open than the more recent Crowe interviews. Will wrote:And then seeing extra footage in PJ20 obviously means there's a lot that was cut out, but could've been left in.
I have plenty of favourite bits in this - I like when Stone says "Back in the seventies we developed these things called..." into "I'll stop trying to make a difference". Good Austin Powers reference. At least I think that happens...
You could use a sustainer pedal.
While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

totally disagree. SVT is too light hearted to have that kinda stuff in it. it was perfect for pj20, however.lowlight79 wrote:It would have been so much cooler if they left the Ed stalker shit in this.

You guys think there will ever be a true, warts-and-all, detailed account of this band?

While they are still a band? No.durdencommatyler wrote:You guys think there will ever be a true, warts-and-all, detailed account of this band?
If they break up? Well, maybe in the distant future, they will lighten up about everything. I think if anything, it would be in some kind of written account and not filmed.
It was really disappointing how they just brushed over Dave's period in the band in PJ20. I can kind of understand not discussing the drummer debate. But, they didn't interview him (nor Jack, for that matter). And, there's what - a couple of side angle back shots of him playing drums?
