Priscilla.
Bland, inoffensive ,boring. Seems Sofia Coppola check out a long time ago. Jacob Elodi is not good.
Only good thing are the art and photography but cmon what a very awful and boring film.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I thought Priscilla was not quite great, but very good. Somewhat half-baked maybe? But I enjoyed it quite a bit. Enjoyable and uncomfortable at the same time.
I really liked Jacob Elordi’s version of Elvis. Both leads were great.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I expected a lot more. Probably my fault since Sofia Coppola has been on autopilot for a long time and her last movie was just horrible but I still had them

I stand strong. Priscilla currently sitting at #2 on my year-end list, though I have quite a few still to see.
I have tickets for Iron Claw and Ferrari later this week already. Hoping to catch Monster and Poor Things this week, too

Re: What movies are you watching?
I'm willing to hear the argument that Priscilla is boring. But I found all those quiet, slow moments to be full of import, highly loaded. Everything is a performance, and we get to watch her practice these little affectations, practicing to pretend to be this person Elvis has invented.
I thought Elordi was great, too.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I might have been too harsh with the boring thing. Its a perfectly watchable movie. Its blandness makes it a saccharine oriented version of this story. The Argonaut wrote:I'm willing to hear the argument that Priscilla is boring. There is a better movie somewhere but not here.
Jacob Elordi ´s Elvis is basically his Nate character fro Euphoria imitating Elvis.

Merry Little Batman
Not only do I consider it as a Christmas movie, but as a new Christmas Classic. Very funny and sweet. Fun for the whole fam. Also just a straight-up great Batman movie. Great voice cast. David Hornsby's Joker is one for the ages. The kinds of laughs that land for both kids and adults. Some wonderful fart humour.

I did not really enjoy Poor Things. It won me over a bit by the end, but it was an uphill battle after a nearly insufferable first hour or so. The main problem may be that I seem to find Emma Stone entirely without charm, perhaps a personal failing.
But it does also kind of make me sad to see Yorgos Lanthimos basically doing Jean-Pierre Jeunet, especially since I don't really like Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

I had to look this one up. I think it will be getting added to our Christmas watch list for this yearFarmer John wrote:Merry Little Batman

Leave the world behind
new one on netflix. Great cast! Ending was abrupt. I wouldnt tell anyone they should rush to see it but if you like hte actors involved and enjoy watching good actors do their thing then sure go for it.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I'm liking it less as I think about it. "It won me over a bit by the end" because the bar was so low. I wasn't tearing my hair out and thinking of leaving at the end, but that's about it. But I'm having trouble identifying even in the end anything that I appreciated or found insightful or interesting or anything. It's mostly just shallow and sillyThe Argonaut wrote:I did not really enjoy Poor Things. It won me over a bit by the end, but it was an uphill battle after a nearly insufferable first hour or so.
