One disc for the studio albums and one for the B-sides. Riot Act was fifteen tracks so that's the cap... gotta keep 'em under 80 minutes though.

So much.
It's not a song that sounded great in the beginning and ran out of gas due to age or performance (i.e.: Blood, Given to Fly, etc).

Was “No Way” ever played live w/ Jack? First played 8/25/98. Matt was touring by then right?

I really admire a song that kinda subtly annoys me for a little while… then all of a sudden starts to appeal to me, then hooks me in and eventually I can’t get enough of it.

Hummus!

What’s cool about Hummus is that it does this to me each time I listen to it. Pretty much every time, as the song plays out.

I love Hummus.
Its exclusion is my ONE AND ONLY pet peeve on the Yield vinyl.

I think it's one of the few pearl jam songs that sounds worse live. They never really got it to sound right.

It's definitely a beautiful studio recording, but I think the biggest issue with "No Way" live is that it was only tried out a few times in '98, and then not revisited again until 2009, when the band's capacity for performing quirky, nuanced songs in concert had significantly diminished. Some of those versions are solid from a performance standpoint, but standard objections to PRAMG live PJ apply to all of them; we don't really have a good quality version of them playing it during an upper-tier performance season, which is unfortunate. Of course, the fact that it was shelved for so long may indicate that the band never really felt like it came together, and indeed if memory serves the '98 versions are mostly pretty tentative. But there is one -- Atlanta 9/1 -- that is flawless, and shows IMO what a good live song it could have been if developed. Unfortunately it only exists as an audience source, but it's on a recent compilation I shared (still on the front page!) if there is any interest in checking it out. I'd love to see that show come out as a Vault release someday.

Good stuff. The 2000 and 2006 tours were probably their best chances to give “No Way” its justice live but for whatever reasons, they passed on it. I’ve never heard 9/1, gonna listen soon.

I will always associate No Way with this Counter Strike flash animation which went viral about 20 years ago (song is played in the credits)

5 out of 5.

It's right there with their big three.

Thinking about it, i think the reason im more lukewarm on this album than others is it seems to be the only album out of their first five that doesn’t really break new ground. All four of the first albums take huge steps in their sound, whereas this seems to just be a pretty good album using what they’ve already established on Ten through No Code. It does have some great songs but I think it’s missing something as a whole.

It’s probably the early album that feels the most comfortable, a band who knows who they are and throws out a couple solid songs. So it’s good but feels a bit inessential as a whole product.

Vitalogy is in some ways my least favorite of the first three but it makes up for it in its thematic cohesion and that as a whole it is such a strong artistic statement. I don’t really feel that Yield has that as much. Vs, Vitalogy, and No Code have it the most.

Which outtake is the only one worthy of being on the album?

- Whale Song
- Leatherman
- U
- Happy When Im Crying

For me is Whale Song.

I like Leatherman the most, but I don’t think any of them would fit on the album.
