The recast is tricky. It has to be really well done.
And its not just getting a great actor, for example, i dont think about Julianne Moore as clarice starling at all, and she is a great great actress but it was impossible to erase the fact that she was not Jodie Foster playing her.

I disagree. I loved Moore as Clarice and had no issue replacing Foster (who was also great) in my mind. To me, Moore is another great example of why recasting works and should be used more often than just writing out characters.

I'm never that distracted by a recast, unless the performance is drastically inferior. I usually have no problem with it. Characters are more idea than real person to me.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
