Leave the World Behind (Netflix)
I dug it. I expect many people to hate the ending. I do not.
It’s an obvious allegory for what’s happening, or will happen, in the world but it never felt like it was beating me over the head with messaging.
Knowing nothing about “Knock at the Cabin” going into that movie, “Leave the World Behind” is kind of what I was expecting/hoping it was.
Keep doing stuff, Sam Esmail.

Re: Leave the World Behind (Netflix)
I dont know if its possible for a movie to beat me over the head with messaging more than this movie.

Re: Leave the World Behind (Netflix)
One of the worst movies I saw all year, largely due to its writing and the obnoxious and ham-handed directorial choices. A handful of interesting moments overwhelmed by a bevy of very stupid ones

Re: Leave the World Behind (Netflix)
I fully appreciate this movie’s message (Americans will kill each other instantly if you take the Internet away). The decision to tactfully induce narrative vertigo at all times was very brave.
My favorite parts include the time when a boat was approaching, then they all sunbathed for several hours, and then the boat was approaching them still, the time a herd of deer accidentally wandered into the movie and we had to ignore them until they went away, and the part where a character got lost driving around a vast and desolate Long Island for eight hours while his family only experienced around 15 minutes.
Truly a provocative examination of what it would be like if (that disaster) happened, and you were trapped in a gorgeous rental house with a pool in the Hamptons.

Watched this tonight. Wife hated it. I kind of liked it. Heavy-handed, sure, but it was fun watching a director I'd never heard of adapt what's a probably an interesting novel using Hitchcock and Kubrick 101.

Gotta say, I'm team Ensign on this one. It's got some issues. A lot of the camera movement choices don't totally work for me but overall I was affected by the movie. On balance it worked

My wife put this on and I hated the first few minutes so much I had to leave the room.
Unbearable.
