At the end of the day, my bet is that they'll release a couple more albums before calling it quits.

I don't mind the wait. It's awesome that they are all still together, making new music and gonna tour soon.

Hopefully the "delay" is just Josh Evans working some magic so it's as wonderful as Gigaton.

Or, they've finally realized that album-release "procedures" don't matter anymore, and we'll get an announcement followed by a quick release a couple of weeks later.

This. My adult life has coincided with Pearl Jam's career. I consider myself very lucky.

If the past is an indication, they will announce it 2 to 4 months before release. A surprise album is just silly imo.

There is some special magic that first listen of the first single and then having it unfold in the weeks that follow. No Pearl Jam songs ever get quite as much love from me as those pre-release songs

Well, I'm happy for you, but I can't say that's been my experience too often.

My first album release was No Code (I was 11).

who you are - was SO different, didn't know what to think, but after nearly 30 years, I def enjoy this track
Given 2 Fly - knew it was a hit from day one
Grievance (not the single, but what they played on letterman) - loved it straight away; album version suffers from compression and terrible production
I am Mine - a very eh single
WWS - same as above
The Fixer - cheese
MYM - almost can't deny me
DOTC - the best piece of music they've written since Yield

So for me, honestly, the first single moments haven't been too impressive for most records. I remember the first listen of DOTC and FINALLY, after a long time, confidently playing this song for friends and family.

Yep. Just compare the live letterman version to the album version. Night and day. Album version is de-balled (guitars are toothless). Sounds like it was recorded under water. Just my opinion, but I think it's pretty obvious.

I can hear exactly what you are talking about, and while I agree that a Josh Evans or even Riot Act era Adam Kasper approach would have benefited the song greatly, I still think the album version kills and in many ways I would prefer listening to it than the Letterman version, which clearly has more energy but also to my nearly 50 year-old ears is just a lot noisier.

The mixing work for Binaural did several songs dirty, and Grievance is one of them.

Is that a BO'B effect, or Tchad Blake?

The post about Grievance sounding poor on Binaural is correct.

Personal preference in terms of what pleases your ears I guess, but I just hate that overproduced, super compressed sound. I'll never forgive them for what they did to Grievance, but on the flip side, Last Exit was absolutely nailed. To me it's the pinnacle of what production/mixing/mastering should sound like in an uptempo, punchy track.

It’s perfectly fine to dislike the production of grievance, but it is neither over-produced nor super compressed

To me it sounds like the guitars are clipped to be emphasized at certain points and almost non-existant at others. To me, that aspect alone seems like both over-production and a form of compression.

Guys, wtf, the production of Binaural is exactly what make the album so great. Is not "rocky". Is moody, mysterious, atmospheric, layered, exotic, nocturnal, ear candy. Is the kind of record made exclusively for headphones. Binaural is a vibe.

There is both up and down compression on that track. All guitars are pretty much turned to the same level and so it feels flat.

Also, stone's guitar in the verse has the feel of a synth machine. It's downright terrible. That's the overproduction I allude to. I know that's def not how they recorded it in the moment.

Check out the letterman video. Stone's guitar at 218-225 is what it SHOULD sound like. Again, just my personal taste. I can respect that others like a different feel.
