I am fully in love with the finale, I think it's perfect.
And based on the structure of the final scene, as well as what happens in the rest of the episode (and the clues they laid out for us throughout the final season) I think it's very clear that

The way the show spared Meadow from seeing the act take place was really effective for me. Even though she’s still going to walk into the immediate aftermath, at least she doesn’t have the image of her father’s head being blown off scorched into her memory forever.

Meadow walks in -- we hear the ding of her opening the door -- and she immediately sees Tony's head getting blown off. The last thing Tony sees is his daughter walking into the restaurant

The Sopranos ending is perfect and really solidifies the show as the GOAT in my opinion.
It makes me chuckle that the ending is still so fiercely debated. I think Chase made some very specific filming/editing choices in the final episode which then informs the final few minutes in the diner.
It never felt ambiguous to me because of these choices. They feel very specific and deliberate. When he said "it's all there" in the first few days after it aired that made sense to me.
You can obviously look at it as a Schrodinger's cat thing too which I find interesting but I'm choosing to believe that
Meadow walks in just in time to see her dad get shot in the head. Traumatises/destroys the family for life. Tony was always worried about wanting to protect his family but instead his choices lead them to see the worst thing they could possibly see.
Finished watching the Sopranos all the way through for the first time since it was on tv (well, since it came out on dvd). God I fucking hate AJ. I realize he’s basically just Tony’s self pity and narcissism in its purest form but my god it’s hard to tolerate him on screen.
Overall I still rank the show very high, but not the absolute best show of all time and probably not in the top ten. Edie Falco’s performance is possibly the best ever on a tv show, though
I expected that to happen for me as well, figured I would have a bit more distance from his character now that I’m twice his age. But nope, if anything I hate him more.
