I believe the revenue from streaming services is paltry at best, but it depends on their agreement with the record label, in part. So, from the perspective of building hype and # of streams, the pre album singles do much better as you say. I just don't know that it's very accretive to the bottom line. Of course, artists' revenue these days comes from touring, merchandise, endorsements, partnerships, etc, and NOT from record sales/streams.
Don't they publish with their own label? I'm assuming they user a bigger company for distribution.

i imagine (and this is speculative), the status, prestiege, or warm fuzzies that come from a ‘number one on X chart’ is what would matter the most. and of course that could impact partnerships etc
