Plotting our summer/family vacation.

We’ve got friends up in the Pacific Northwest who’ve invited us to stay with them in June - I’ve never been up there. The other option is Chicago, but we’d likely go at the end of May to avoid the heat.

Airfare for the six of us to Seattle is a lot. We’d drive to Chicago with an overnight stop in St. Louis

Either option is fine by me.

Airfare purchased for Seattle.

Pretty stoked. First time for me.

We’ll be on an island, but hoping to get a Seattle proper experience.

my friend texted me yesterday about a vinyl i'd gifted him some years back. he said a guy stopped by their house the other day inquiring about the album, and that the guy wants to open a record shop on the island.

my immediate thought was, is he talking about doug?

any chance the recent RMers who’ve been to Europe are at&t users? Even if you’re not, what did you do for data/phone use?

did you fork over $$ for an international plan? eSIM? Made calls and text over Wi-Fi? Use WhatsApp for texting?

I don’t think we’ll be making a ton of calls unless it the situation warrants. I don’t want to spend a bunch of money unnecessarily.

2018 i had an international plan. I used it mostly by going from France to Italy in a car to see Pearl Jam. 2019 used wifi and i realized i didnt needed the plan.
2022 had a SIM card i got from 10 euros. I didnt really needed it but it was mostly for work stuff, but again i was already on a place with wifi when needed.

Last year i used wifi the whole trip and it was fine. I guess it depends on were are you going in europe and how much you need your phone line to be accesible.

There is a fish in me . . . I know I came from salt-blue water-gates . . . I scurried with shoals of herring . . . I blew waterspouts with porpoises . . . before land was . . . before the water went down . . . before Noah . . . before the first chapter of Genesis.

There is a baboon in me . . . clambering-clawed . . . dog-faced . . . yawping a galoot's hunger . . . hairy under the armpits . . . here are the hawk-eyed hankering men . . . here are the blonde and blue-eyed women . . . here they hide curled asleep waiting . . . ready to snarl and kill . . . ready to sing and give milk . . . waiting—I keep the baboon because the wilderness says so.

There is an eagle in me and a mockingbird . . . and the eagle flies among the Rocky Mountains of my dreams and fights among the Sierra crags of what I want . . . and the mockingbird warbles in the early forenoon before the dew is gone, warbles in the underbrush of my Chattanoogas of hope, gushes over the blue Ozark foothills of my wishes—And I got the eagle and the mockingbird from the wilderness.

O, I got a zoo, I got a menagerie, inside my ribs, under my bony head, under my red-valve heart—and I got something else: it is a man-child heart, a woman-child heart: it is a father and mother and lover: it came from God-Knows-Where: it is going to God-Knows-Where—For I am the keeper of the zoo: I say yes and no: I sing and kill and work: I am a pal of the world: I came from the wilderness.
