Movie: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Fincher’s)

Post by Ensign9 »

I rewatched this last night. How did the two sequels not get made? Good box office, Oscar noms, critical acclaim, and a built-in audience from a bestselling book trilogy. Whaaaaa?

I read the IMDB and Wiki entries and it sounds like things were humming along, money was being spent in pre-production with a plan to film them back to back, and then it just evaporated.

Unfortunate Netflix wasn’t around at the time; seems like something they would’ve snapped right up from Sony and continued.

Great trailer as well: https://youtu.be/YKWXEfXGWtA?si=yeTdjN7CaGY4ab4m

Yeah I'm not sure why either.

It seems like this movie didn’t garner the appreciation it should have.

Claire Foy is always worth watching
Sometimes I wanna drive around and find you
And act like it's a random thing

The Swedish films are good. The one in the headline here was decent, and Claire Foy did play in a sequel, The Girl in the Spider's Web, but it was the worst of all five movies.

Noomi Rapace in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009)
Noomi Rapace in The Girl Who Played with Fire (2009)
Noomi Rapace in The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (2009)
- Can also be seen as an extended six part mini-series called Millennium (2010) - The complete miniseries has been issued on Blu-ray & DVD in North America, but marketed as 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy: Extended Edition' and has a complete running time of 558 minutes.

Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
Claire Foy in The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018)

I see. I started the books way back then, but couldn’t finish. However, I enjoyed the movies as a mini series.
