Basically yeah. They've been pressuring me for awhile. But it's a hybrid 3 day-a-week deal rather than work there full time.

It's so dumb, especially in an industry where layoffs are pretty much guaranteed every 3 years or so. They're like "hey, can you sell your house, uproot your family and move across the country so that you can do the same thing you can do from home, then get laid-off in one of the most expensive cities in the country?"

It's so dumb, especially in an industry where layoffs are pretty much guaranteed every 3 years or so. They're like "hey, can you sell your house, uproot your family and move across the country so that you can do the same thing you can do from home, then get laid-off in one of the most expensive cities in the country?"

Exactly. I had a friend making $150k in Seattle, almost living paycheck to paycheck, get laid off, and couldn’t afford to move back to where he was from without borrowing money.

One of the keys to success in working in a factory is consistency. It's a factory, you're kind of going to do the same thing over and over. That's just the nature--and sometimes the beauty--of the job. There is a right way to do things and you should do it that way every time. Now, I don't meant to give you the impression that I'm on a factory line tightening a rivet for .75 seconds, pressing a button, and tightening another rivet. But there is a fair amount of repetitive tasks that need to be performed consistently, even in my paperwork job. That's factory work.

So why, I ask you, did it take my colleague anywhere from ten to eighteen minutes to perform the same five-minute-task, even after four run-throughs? Why was my colleague holding their pen above the paper motionless for minutes at a time? What were they thinking in those moments?

Just write the same thing you just wrote on the last piece of paper!

I would not have really cared but they showed up at my workspace to work on this with me at noon after a very quiet morning and just started working, no heed paid to when lunch might be, no advance notice of when they'd be showing up. Just showed up and started working slowly. I didn't get to lunch until 1:30 and we'd only done a third of what we could have done.

Sometimes, this factory drives me crazy. But I mostly like it OK so far

If I worked in a factory I'd wear a boilersuit. That would really simplify my wardrobe.

I've worn a sweater over an oxford-cloth button-down every day so far, so sleeves down. I am not opposed to rolling up my sleeves if ever the day comes when I am not wearing a sweater.

But I often have to walk outside between factory buildings so the sweater comes in handy during the winter

All cotton sweaters. Or a cotton/artificial fiber mix. I often remember your advice to wear natural fibers, though I don't always live it in practice.
I have one sweater that's a really nice rayon/nylon mix actually, I like it. Kinda stretchy and soft, but still looks like a normal fabric, not sporty or pajama-y
