First new Decemberists track in a very long time dropped today!

It's called Burial Ground and I goddamn love it. Man, I have missed this band! So pumped to have a new album, finally.

"This world's all wrong
So, let's go where we belong
Pack up the stereo
Meet at the burial ground"

Might be the most Decemberists lyrics ever.

Colin Meloy is better at melody than any living person not named McCartney.

I don't listen to a heap of The Decemberists but driving along the other day "The Rake's Song" came on. Man I love that one.

I'm excited to hear how your Decemberists journey is going. Have you listened to more than Castaways, Her Majesty, and King?

still only the first two albums so far I'm afraid, but I loved them and I'm confident that I'll also enjoy their forays into prog and alternative when they happen

I know KD already covered some discussion group, but I'm really excited to see how you react to some of the later stuff. I adore the first two records (Her Majesty, especially!) but I think The Crane Wife (very proggy and heady and all about storytelling!) and What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World are my two favorites. The later is less proggy, it's just gorgeous songs that just fucking work all the way around.

But this is a band without a bad record. I genuinely love everything they've released. And, like PJ, they have a pretty deep bench of b-sides/non-album tracks that are among some of my favorite Decemberists tunes.

If you're jonesing for another epic, long form track, check out The Tain. I have a feeling that might be right up your alley.
