Pretty much everything following has some sort of vocal thing that dampens my enjoyment. A bit too nasal, then a bit too subdued, then a bit too struggling. Taking into account his age and defining perfect as "perfect for what he can do right now" it has to be something from the Avocado/Into The Wild/Backspacker era.stip wrote:I fucking love Mind Your Manners. It's a favorite. I agree that it's maybe the best version of a song Ed had been trying to write for a while (though SBWM may top it - they are reaching for something similar even if they're tonally different)
Here's a question. What is the last perfect Eddie vocal performance for you - one that captures 100% of what you want from him, no caveats. There are a few moments on Earthlings that come close.
Mine is probably Hard Sun.
I'll stay with Force Of Nature but with 90% and some caveats.

I love pretty much all of Ed's singing up to Riot Act. There's always something that makes it less than perfect, though.Ms Harmless wrote:I love Ed's nasal thing, wish he still did itMike wrote:I've been thinking about this for a bit but can't make up my mind. We did a google ads banner last year, and funnily enough the tag line was "The home for arguing over the worst Pearl Jam songs (and it's not The Pit)".tragabigzanda wrote:You guys are arguing about some of the worst Pearl Jam songs

It's maybe the only example of late-period Pearl Jam doing one of those 'high octane rockers' that actually works.

We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

I struggled with it. It's still Ed so I'll still take it, but the nasal period is my least favorite vocal eraMs Harmless wrote:I love Ed's nasal thing, wish he still did itMike wrote:I've been thinking about this for a bit but can't make up my mind. I like big crashing chords, I just don't really like... those chords; they're mostly major so they scream AC/DC instead of Vitalogy; I enjoy every other rocker on S/T moreBirds in Hell wrote:Me too.Jorge wrote:I like the weird dueling guitar lines in "Comatose"

MYM is fine, although the compressed production does it no favours.
As for EV's nasally thing, that's probably my favourite vocal affectation of his.

ms. harmless, we rarely see eye to eye but I've been digging your takes in this thread. So... there's hope?
