I need the context of how the album rolls around it, I think.

Love how loose the playing is. Part of the secret sauce from the old days, even if the song itself isn't necessarily cribbing anything directly from the era.evenslow wrote:Mike fucking rules man.

This song is the anti-Riot Act...Ed full-throated, not clenched...Further back in the mix, not thrust forward, guitars full-blooded and forward, not polished and distant.

Re: Dark Matter (song)
ordering the single from pearljam.com apparently comes with an instrumental b-side. Have they ever done that before?

This is fucking great.
I don’t hear a lot of bass. But at 1:30 there is some tasty, tasty heavy bass work by Jeff.
Lyrics I’m hearing in the chanty chorus:
“It’s strange, these days, everybody else pays, for someone else’s mistake”

All smiles. Definitely seems like Andrew talked to them about things everyone complains about on here. So glad to have some VS anger in the chorus. Reminded me of blood on those “THESE DAYS” parts. And the You Are drum machine guitar stuff. This one’s out there but the part of the riff that slides up and walks back down reminds me a lot of the bridge riff in garden.

this might be a really dumb thing to say so quickly but... this doesn't actually sound like anything else in their catalogue.
