Coach wrote:“Denounce the demigods / king diamond to discard / deploy the dialog / your word against the law,” he sings before the chorus, which carries the repeated couplet “it’s strange these days, when everybody else pays for someone else’s mistake / this blame takes shape, still everybody else pays for someone else’s mistake.”

Sonically, “Dark Matter” slots in somewhere between the more tightly wound Pearl Jam of Vs. and the sleek, angry rockers found on later albums such as Binaural. Vedder’s trademark turn-of-phrase is evident during the zig-zagging bridge, where he commands, “No tolerance for intolerance or / no patience left for impatience no more / no love lost for lost loves / no sorrow for the unaccountable.” A short instrumental snippet of the song was debuted yesterday on The Bill Simmons Podcast.

Very rough stab at some lyrics. People should go to work on this. I want a complete song by morning

Steal the light from my eyes
Steal the blood from my heart
In all of this dark matter
Take the … from my chest
We're losing count, dark matter

Denounce the demigods
King diamond to destroy
Deploy the dialogue
Your word against the lord

It’s strange these days
When everyone else pays for someone else’s mistake
Display ….
Till everyone else pays for someone else's mistake

Your rolling away
Your pulling apart
In all of this dark matter

I want you to sit and ……
Arrest….
No one knows what happened next

Denounce the demigods
King diamond to destroy
Deploy the dialogue
Your word against the lord

It’s strange these days
When everyone else pays for someone else’s mistake
Display ….
Till everyone else pays for someone else's mistake

No tolerance for intolerance
No patience left for impatience no more
No love lost for lost loves
No sorrow for the unaccountable

It’s pretty neat how various parts of the song sound like parts of other albums; the funky like strumming of vs., the drum machine effect harkening back to riot act, the looseness of ten combined with the harder edge of vs… yet it’s completely different and simultaneously sounds nothing like previous stuff.

Like, we have not heard that tight/groovy of playing from these players since TOTD. Stone, mike, jeff, cameron....that is pure heavy riffage and cameron just doing what he does best. Thats what i hear

I'd call that a heavy tune

There's a lot going on with the guitars

It's weird, this song feels more Pearl Jam than anything they've done since, maybe Riot Act - yet it's so fresh.

I'm really liking Ed's vocal delivery here... Some powerful Ten-esque growls and no Post Avocado screechiness. His vocals almost remind me of the re-recorded vocals on Brother and Alone off Lost Dogs.. An older Ed tapping into that young Ed intensity.

Mike such a fkn pro...Knows the best two spots to hook em on the solo...on the way coming in and on the way out...killer
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Yeah, someone else said earlier that it's like something new yet incredibly familiar at the same time or something like that. I feel like this is very different from everything else they've done yet at the same time it's still them.

This is pretty rad. I didn't think they had it in them.
